Hmm, I've been looking but haven't seen the titles of the rest of ICE's books like I have SE's. Does anyone know what the remaining three after RoTCG?

don't think ICE's prospective titles and plans are available as of yet (certainly not publicly)

--

on topic, I think Laseen is probably playing a deeper game than it seems, whether its deep enough to not get swamped amidst all the other people hatching their own plans is wide open.

They haven't been announced yet. I hope you'll forgive our two-way dialogue. A few of us have been discussing the eventuality of ICE releasing the names of his books, akin to SE, but we've heard nothing so far. It doesn't seem to be such a priority, I'm wondering if ICE himself is clear of the book contents/plotlines. Interestingly NoK doesn't count as a novel, it was an introductory novella. Fortunately, depending on your outlook, that means we have four novels after RotCG from ICE.

I'll take four over three.

Hmmm.. from an interview a while back (on malaz wiki somewhere)

there will be a book dealing with Korelri campaign, stormriders + Greymane

There will be a book on Assail and Silverfox

There will be a book on "where it all started" --Darujhistan, possibly Northern Genabackis?

and the last book will be complemetary to "The Crippled God", to give us a full picture on just what the last big smackdown will be all about...

Didn't he also mention an epilogue to TCG (as well as the complementary book). I may remember the interview wrong.

Oh, yeah, we got several years, at least...

hmm, btw, since the last ICE novel is "Complementary" to "The Crippled God", and we'd expect it to be released in the somewhat similar timeframe, does that mean ICE will write and release books faster?

If i not wrong she offered Kalam the place of Clawmaster so that he could dispose of Kobolo Dom and Mallick El so she knew the danger they posed. Maybe her only mistake is to underestimate Rel, that guy is very slippery and he has access to High Ruse wich according to QB is the most difficult warren to control.

I know this is a bit out of topic but is Mallick Rel a 7 Cities native?

Yes he is, a jhistal.

Also, High ruse isn't only tough for QB, I am fairly certain that it is mentioned to be the hardest warren to gain mastery in.

i had 2 thoughts while reading this thread, they are a bit far out but bare with me...

first off, i thought that laseen was the unwitting servant of the twin jesters of chance, opoon. everything she does (or has done) seems to come out for the good (sort of). whiskeyjack and the bridgeburners are ascended, nightchill and tattersail became one, tavore and co are beating down on the CG everywhere they go, etc.... sure its had its bad sides too but hey, death is inevitable so idk.

secondly, topper is clip... although i just realised that he's been chilling in bluerose forever and topper has been within the malazan empire. all i had supporting this was that they were both mad swordsman and they were both half-andii. also clip uses a 2-handed sword while topper uses daggers/long-knives. ignore that, i can't be bothered deleting it though so hah!

note: both of these are going to turn out untrue i think, haha.

note2: she is powerful but we haven't really had much contact with her at all, so who knows the extent of that power. expect her to have to reveal herself at some stage though. =D

This comes up in MoI when the Bridgeburners are moving via Moranth to Coral. The Moranth sense 'carrion' and land, and lo, there's a dead tiste edur. Quick Ben talks with the Moranth and they seem to agree it was done by a high mage of ruse, but..

hmm.. I got the impression that Rel was a Falari--it's mentioned in tBH by Tavore that when the Falari islands were conquered the emperor crushed the jhistal ruse cult--she said that implying that Rel wa a part of it, and he flinched..

that tiste edur was one of rhulad's chosen brothers i believe. i think its the one that stomps on tehol, and bugg goes crazy at him and sends him to one of the deepest parts of the sea in MT, just fyi... and yeah, bugg (mael) is the only real master of ruse that we've encountered afaik.

Wow. That was impressive detective work there chthon. It kinda makes sence. But Bugg was pretty pissed, and pissed off elder gods are pretty cruel and unpredictable. I mean, if the edur that the Moranth find is the same as the one Bugg snatched, well then he's a lucky one. But I think Bugg still has that edur trapped somewhere in the depths, doing whatever he finds appropriate... "coughs".. to do..
Anyway, pretty good detective work there..

hehe, thank you. that was all i could come up with upon my second read-through... thought it was kinda strange that a tiste-edur would be randomly dead via drowning, and i read on a bit more in the series and discovered bugg drops one in the ocean sometime in the past (not sure of the timeline for when the tiste-edur conquered lether in perspective to other events happening on the world), but that seemed the most logical explanation... the only other drowned ones we encounter and in the nascent, and i think it'd be hard to escape there when your dead (and not undead, hehe) and unable to open a portal. =D

Agreed, I thought the same when I read the books chtonian.
Also thanks for Zorland for finding the proper quote to support my earlier post. Would give rep if I could.

Yeah, i realised that through a re-read through MT. It's a bit like finding out the speared Tiste Edur captain on Silanda is
Spoiler
. It all comes around. Sorry if that didn't work- the spoiler, I mean. Lolz, Paran thought the TE had been killed by another TE- so wrong. Theradas Buhn was killed by good ol' pressure.

I dearly hope Laseen's true nature is involved in RotCG- I still don't know why the hell she would want to kill Dassem, i mean cmon, everything was going so well..... And no-one needs to reply to that.

She's paranoid, Dassem had so much support. Read the passage in NoK before Y'Ghatan. I still don't understand, Dassem didn't want the throne - he was an ascendant for one. Ascendants don't make good emperors at all, it's like a tag saying "come and get this empire and destroy it because I'm a power-hungry bastard".

Dancer, I'm pretty sure that Dassem implies, somewhere during NoK, that he'd rule the empire if the oppertunity arose.

You have to remember at that point Dancer and Kel were still expected to return.
