Right.. Anaster. Poor bloke.. he didn't really want to participate in all of that crap, but he didn't seem to have a choice. I feel sorry for him really.. I mean, imagine, holding on to burdens so badly that he got horrified by Itkovians offer of taking them away...

I hope Kallor kills both Orfantal and Korlat, just to further spite all the WJ lovers

I hope you trip on your shoe laces:(
And yeah, Whiskeyjack losing was explained by his injury. Him not wanting it healed was just another twist of irony I guess... poor Mallet.

Whatever happened with Mallet anyway? and the rest of the BB.. They're still sitting in that tavern of Picker's and getting drunk and exchanging stories?

Well, we will probably be enlightened as to what the BBs have been doing since they were "discharged". They might not have been sitting quietly, in fact it's probably too much to ask that they've settled down nicely.
I agree with you Apt. Kallor should go on a wrecking mission in the next two/three books.

Pretty much... and Mallet is probably still a cursing himself a-la Squint from DG/ BH (don't think he made an appearance in RG - did he? damn, and my re-read is only a week old)

No, I dont think he showed up in RG. Cant' wait till I get to read more about them. jeez, those BB are a nasty bunch aren't they just.. The Empress is an outright fool for not having them around. They could've been sent to Seven Cities and Coltaine would've had a real boost of both morale and experience to the Seventh. But I know, they were really needed where they were.. And exactly as it was expected of them, they raised hell wherever they went. Think about it... where would the Host be if not for the BB??

70 bridgeburners did not decide the outcome of the hosts engagement in Coral.
A thousand ascended BB ghosts did decide the outcome of the battle of Raraku though...

Whiskeyjack's leg causing his death wasn't just irony... it was Hood's revenge on him. I think his reason was something to do with Whiskeyjacks sister... he turned away all attempts to heal him, so it wasn't really Mallet's fault.

Hmm.. you forget the psychological impact having BB's in one's army.. Without them the Host would be just another regular Imperial Army. Not the Host though..
A question.. Which Army is One Arm's Host? I mean they're categorized by numbers like Coltaine's Seventh and Tavore's Fourteenth.. What of the Host?

The host, or the ninth as it came to be called, was made up of at least three veteran armies that had fought in Genebackis for something close to a decade. Because of the heavy tolls the army had taken all over northern genebakis and finally at Pale, they were all merged because they were too depleted to function as seperate armies.
The BBs, I agree, must have been a boost to the armies pride, but the host was certainly not anywhere as useless as the 14th was when it started out.

Pre-Pale...
- Starting quote in Book One, GotM
Chapter 10 of GotM
Outrider Hurlochel from the 6th army records words between Kallor and Brood and of Silverfox. But there doesn't appear to be much mention of the 5th Army in Moi, so they might've been left to administrate Pale or absorbed by the 2nd/6th. 10,000 of Dujek's men joined Caladan's Brood army in MoI.
Quote
The forces of the Malazan Empire, commanded by High Fist Dujek Onearm, consisted in that year of the 2nd, 5th and 6th Armies, as well as legions of Moranth.
- Starting quote in Book One, GotM
Quote
The High Fist was busy restructuring Pale, and his newly formed 5th Army; while the High Mage sought Tattersail, evidently without much success.

Right.. thanks for clearing it up..
Kinda boring I lost GM.. haven't read it in a while as a result of it.. thinking of ordering it soon.. hence my lack of knowledge on the buildup of the Host..
