The Book I bought today is...

Come on now, toad. We've had the discussion on Changes before. Changes was not a good story. It was two or three books pushed into one book and it suffered for it. A lot of very important events happened, haphazardly, and Butcher skated right over them to get to the finishline. Now this may just because he needed to cram that much story into one book to keep the book count at twenty or he has lost the plot.

I'm not that far in the series yet but from the sound of it I don't think I'll have a problem with Changes. I loves books that are crammed full of important events and 'splosions.
It's kind of odd he delayed Ghost Story....for 6 years he was putting out two books a year, and the Codex Alera books are quite a bit longer than the Dresden Files. I'm not counting Side Jobs.

13 if you include the short story collection Side Jobs. Rumor has it he plans to do 20 or so, then wrap things up with a trilogy.
I just had a physical reaction to the thought of 23 Dresden books. Not that. It was more of a whole body twitch upwards, as if I could step outside, hop into my car and immediately set about acquiring all 23 books right goddamn now.
I'd totally do that if it were at all humanly possible. I can't imagine what SF readers in 30 years will experience once they get good and truly hooked on the Dresden-crack and see that it doesn't get worse at all...
Imagine just starting the series for the first time and having 20+ books of it ahead of you.
The mind, it reels.

To be honest I think we'll have to see what happens in the Dresden series.
I did not like Changes. Also, i am cold and dead inside, a communist and probably a cylon.

I finally completed my Hornblower collection with Admiral Hornblower in the West Indies.
Also, picked up 4 of those Magic Tree House books for the kids. I loathe them, but the kids love 'em, and since I'm the official Bedtime Reader, the least I can do for myself is not have to read the same damn ones over and over again...

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

The books I bought today are...
Animal Farm: A Fairy Story, Orwell
Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck
Leadership: Plain and Simple, Radcliffe
and
The Stand, King
Taken out of context, I am not sure I like what that little list says about me! Gotta make room for the classics, me thinks.

Quick question regarding the dresdencrak [sic]...
I've not read any of the books, but I did watch tv series. How much overlap is there between the series and the books? I want to start reading the series and I'd like to know how much overlap to expect.

I would deem the Series as a LOOSE HOMAGE to the books. Harry does not (for example) carry a hockey stick...he carries a staff....he's also not 45 at the beginning of the series, he's closer to 30. Bob is ONLY a spirit in a skull...and never takes human form. Murphy is blonde, five foot nothing and knows Akido (Also her first name is Karrin, not Connie), and contrary to how the TV show portrays it....Harry is NOT friends with Bianca (or ANY Red Court Vamps) and he most certainly does not have any kind of relationship with her, she wants nothing but to see him dead. Justin DuMorne is NOT alive and is NOT Harry's uncle. They also changed various names. Harry Drives a beat up Beetle, not a jeep. He wears a leather duster...not a 3-quarter length hipster leather jacket.
Basically the show only faintly resembles the books and the books are FAR more entertaining.

That's okay. We all have to start somewhere. You can thank us later.

You could say the TV show Butcher'd the books...

While i loved the hockey stick of doom, i found very little to like in the tv series.

also picked up 2 new authors: Glenda Larke--2 volumes of a trilogy, sounded non-generic enough, (and had a nice map), and Kate Griffin--À madness of Angels, seemed somewhat dredenesque, but darker. meh, we`ll see.
Read the Griffin a few weeks ago. Like Dresden crossed with Mieville (and if that doesn't sound like fun, you are cold and dead inside, and probably a zombie).
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Had a good haul at a used bookstore in Murray, KY over the weekend.
Got Cooks Lords of the Silent Kingdom Instrumentalities book 2 for $6.
Kings The Gunslinger Viking edition for $6. Which is freaking awesome cause the cheapest i've seen it on ebay was $30.
A large sized softcover of Memories of Ice for $3. And a book club edition of Gardens of the Moon for $7.
And softbacks of Kings The Gunslinger and Drawing of the 3 for $2 apiece since my dogs chewed on mine.
And i got the ole lady some Janet Evanovich books, but no one here cares.
