The Hyperion trilogy by Dan Simmons
I now have #1-6 of the Dresden Files and #1-5 of the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher
How Few Remain by Harry Turtledove
The Crusades by Thomas Asbridge
Backlash the 4th book in the Fate of the Jedi series
Empires, Wars and Battles by T.C.F. Hopkins
I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max
Irish Thunder by Bob Halloran( the book that the movie The Fighter was based on)
And a couple of basic computer books to help shore up my woefully lacking knowledge in that area

GGK (Ysabel), because it is GGK, but I fear it may not be to my tastes seeing how those who like this also like Tigana;
Glen Cook (A matter of time), didn't even know it existed;
Miéville (The Scar, Iron Council), psyched for The Scar, mostly;
Charles Stross (Glasshouse, Wireless, Accelerando, Singularity Sky, Iron Sunrise) thanks, Abyss;
Butcher (Changes), finally in paperback;
Rothfuss (Wise Man's Fear) didn't really think Name of the Wind was worth the hype and reading the reactions from others, think I might as well have saved the money, but....

and the non-fiction How to change the world by Eric Hobsbawm. Who is one of the heroes of one of my profs. And a commie.

Neal Asher - "Brass Man". I ordered this a while ago, and had my order cancel, so I went to the store primarily to finally get a refund. and there it was, on the shelf.

additionally, grabbed the 4th Cormac book, "Polity Agent", as well as the mmpb of GGKay's "Under Heaven".
and, with many second thoughts, "the Icarus effect", the Deus Ex prequel novel, set in the same time period as Deus Ex 3

Mainly because of Bombur's thread about a new space opera and since I can't help but buy books I picked up Alistair Reynold's Relevation Space today for a couple of bucks at HalfPriced Books.

Hey, Banks fans -- don't ignore Against A Dark Background, it's right up there with his Culture novels for SF greatness.

I got Michael Cobley's Orphaned Worlds, about which I am currently ambivalent, as I can barely remember the sketchiest details of the first book to which this is a sequel.

Also got Mikhail Bulgakov's classic novel The Master and Margarita, which will be my second book in my resolution to read a classic novel a month this year (yeah, I have some catching up to do, after TCG, WMF, etc.)

Reading that Leo Grin blog post and the accompanying comments made me sad. I think I have to go buy a book today. I'd like it to be The Crippled God, but I can't afford that right now (At least not until next month )

I'm thinking either Abercrombie's Blade itself (Just to stick it to the man, or at least Leo Grin) or A Game of Thrones.

Any other suggestions?

edit: I wouldn't go anywhere near any boards on that series before you're all up to date with it. I'm speaking from personal experience.

Yup the Culture is awesome.

I love Tigana. I'd heard some negative things about Ysabel, but may have to check it out now.

Hadn't heard of A matter of time either. Gonna go look it up.
