I've been seeing entire shelves of Malazan in Chapters/Indigo in Ontario lately.
Occasionaly an end of row display too.

@Brood - re Dresden, i could see that happening if you powered through the series. I digested it in 2-3 book chunks which worked nicely, but too much would be like sitting through an extended STALLONE/AH-NALD/CHUCK NORRIS action movie marathon - great fun initially but at some point you just need SILENCE OF THE LAMBS to mix things up.

- Abyss, notes Chuck Norris would have stopped Lechter with one roundhouse kick to the creepy.

The big Waterstones in town has a little cardboard display now, with several copies of each book on their own shelves. Right in prime "Ooh, what's that about?" position:)

I've only been reading them one at a time. Got up to book 3 or 4, I think. I like them all, individually, I think. There's just something I can't put my finger on that makes them not as good as others thing... I think it's the odd writing style, but I can't be sure:confused:

Wow. I have a tiny indogi spirit near me, and they have 1 of every Erikson book, Dresden File novel, and other various goodies.

Most of the big chapters/indigos around me have all (or most) of them, too.

You need better stores! That, or just order them into the store, durr.

On topic: I got the Dread Empire Omnibus' by Glen Cook.

Let me know about The First Betrayal, I've heard mixed reviews about this book.....been interested for a while but haven't picked it up.

I'm preordering Iron Angel by Alan Campbell. It's the second book in The Deepgate Codex. This guy is good.

I just read "City of Pearl" by Karen Traviss and really enjoyed it, so I went out and bought the next 2 books as well, "Crossing the Line" and "The World Before".

@caladanbrood - I did watch the Golden Compass film, which I acually found boring, and didn't really encourage me to go read the books. But after the recent few books I had recently read, which were not engaging and found boring, I thought I'll take the risk and get 'His Dark Materials' books, as it was 3 for the price of 2 on book offers and is supposed to have good reviews. The first book was okay, but nothing special apart from a few good ideas. The second book is a lot better as you get a good understanding of where the story is leading and moves to a bigger scale. I can also see after just finishing the second book, why some people consider it to be anti-christian, and must admit if the books are aimed at children there seems to be a lot of stuff that is probably not appropriate for a young audience.

If you are a religious christian then you may find some of the stuff offending, but if you are able to keep seperate the fiction from real religion then you should be fine.

I'll be able to tell you better what I think after I've read the third and final book.

@Xander - will do, though it may be a while till I get around to reading it as a lot of good books are coming out over these next few months that I've been waiting for, which will take priority. The main reason for buying it was it sounded interesting and was only £3.48 from amazon.co.uk.

The book I bought today is Joe Abercrombie's "The Last Argument of Kings" and after reading two chapters it looks even better than the previous ones!

Bought "The Red Wolf Conspiracy" the other day, but it's put aside for Abercrombie.

Three books, 900 pages long apiece. I think your wish will be granted :)

Finishing off Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth (which combines pure awesomeness with some pretty ludicrous moments of camp and silliness, an intriguing combination). Then I'll probably move onto David Gemmell's Troy Trilogy, unless Scott Bakker's Neuropath shows up tomorrow.

Also reading (disgracefully slowly) an early draft of Paul Kearney's The Ten Thousand. It's very, very good indeed, and may exceed Abercrombie for the title of Best Epic Fantasy of 2008, unless ADWD makes it out.
Visit The Wertzone for reviews of SF&F books, DVDs and computer games!

Any idea when the 10000 is due out Wert? Really looking forward to it, if it's as good as you say maybe Kearney will finally get the success he deserves...

Looking forward to the collected edition of the monarchies of god as well...

I've got Last Arguement of Kings and Small favour on order from amazon, and I bought Watchmen, Red Wolf Conspiracy and Soon I will be invincible by Austin Grossman the other day.

Bought Soon I will be Invincible on a whim, never heard of the book or author before, but I really enjoyed it, it takes the standard comic book tropes, and puts it in novel form, then tells the story from both the villain and a heroes perspective. Very interesting and witty look at why evil geniuses always do such stupid things and attempt to take over the world.
