I know you guys hate it when I do this (Mac and TRB for certain), but Harper Collins has THE NATURE OF MIDDLE EARTH release in the offing (it's out in the States and the UK already) soon in Canada. I think these are widely considered Tolkien's "final" writings on Middle Earth from his notes before his death?
But yeah...it's the same size and design style as the recent re-released LOTR, HOBBIT, and SILMARILLION volumes...so you know...for completionists sake...

Oh great. Another QTb moment where I'm debating spending money on food Vs books. Thanks a bunch.
In other news, I was in a charity shop today and found the complete Ravens Shadow trilogy by Anthony Ryan. All in, cost me £2. So yeah I bought it.

Tales from When I Had a Face (illustrated novel, Kickstarter ending in 13 days):
"I once had a face. I can still picture it, if I try. But that surface always felt alien, a blank canvas that anything could be projected upon. Except the eyes. Something haunted those slate mirrors, a terrible purpose that waited patiently to reveal itself.
We are all just costumes that death wears for a season."
"You want to know about the Fallen? In a sense, they are angels. But not angels of Hallmark: brass trumpets, picnicking in the clouds. They are great swirling engines of wing and blood, fiery eyes that peer around the corners between worlds. Dark, radiant things conjured from fresh battlefields, a Frankenstein's Valkyrie, forever crashing to Midgard. What grief demands their hate, what vast, cannibal hunger."

Grabbed Jay Kristoff's EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE as it sounded like a cool premise, and I like Kristoff's writing for the most part.

Nope, his last book trilogy was a murderous female assassin in a Venetian-style city.
His first series (Japanese steampunk) was a bit YAish...but not overly so.
But here's his Goodreads post for this novel describing it and how it's not for kids, which should give you a good idea:

I was curious about this as well, so I checked your link QT. I was in until the phrase "blood drinking blowjob scene". Now I'm slowing leaving the room.

This does not scare me off. It probably should because "Holy Hannah!". But I've seen enough solid reviews to be wiling to give at least this one a try. It all depends on how it's handled really, or what the context is. We will see.

When you get to this scene you're going to have to share some context. I cannot possibly see a scenario in which that is essential to the plot or character arc, lol.
BTW I'm usually on mobile so please forgive me not trimming quotes.

I made a whole bunch of great finds at an estate sale today. There were MANY (hundreds) more books (spanning 60s–80s pulpy SF to 90s–00s literary SF with some fantasy thrown in), but I couldn't bring myself to purchase all of them while I still have hundreds of my own books sitting in boxes.
It was an awe-some collection.
Here's the list:
Hardback
- "Doc" Smith's Chronicles of the Lensmen, vols 1 & 2 (Set of 2 collecting the Lensman books)
- Cook's Garrett PI (Set of 4 collecting all of the Garrett PI books)
- Cherryh's Downbelow Station
- Cherryh's Rimrunners
- Cherryh's Cyteen
- Stross' On Her Majesty's Occult Service (I believe this is an omnibus collecting the first two books of The Laundry series)
- Stephenson's The Diamond Age (I think I have this in softcover somewhere, but I've definitely not read it before)
Softcover
- Brunner's Bedlam Planet
- Brunner's Interstellar Empire
- Brunner's The Stardroppers
- Niven/Pournelle's Inferno
- Niven/Pournelle's Lucifer's Hammer
- Pournelle's Falkenberg's Legion (the back synopsis said this was a prequel to The Mote In God's Eye???)
- Norton's The Zero Stone
- Norton's Star Gate
- Heinlein's Methuselah's Children
- Vinge's Across Realtime
- Cook's The Dragon Never Sleeps
- Cook's Shadowline
- Cook's Stars' End
- Vance's Galactic Effectuator
- Zelazny's Lord of Light
That's a total of 11 hardbacks and 15 softcovers for $13.

Was not a big fan of Kristoff's Japan debut.
Picked up "God is Not Willing" and Lawrence's "Holy Sister" last night.

Needed something light to take my mind off current real life crap, so I decided it was time to go back to Kristen Britain’s Green Rider series. So I’m reading HIGH KING’s TOMB, and I bought:
BLACKVEIL
MIRROR SIGHT
FIREBRAND
DREAM GATHERER
And I am putting he most recent one WINTERLIGHT, on my Xmas list.
Light and classic epic fantasy is helping distract me.
