Went on a small spree on Amazon.

The Middle Sea by Viscount John Julius Norwich
The Secret History by Procopius
The Familiar v1 by Mark Z. Danielewski

Of these the Middle Sea is the one I'm looking forwards to the most. His book on the popes was excellent, and I'm very interested to read this one. I also wanted his three volume history of the Byzantine Empire, but it's surprisingly difficult to get hold of v 1 in good condition. Still, I have for some reason never read The Secret History, so that'll keep me occupied for a little while too.

I needed a little more though, just so that the packaging wouldn't be embarassed. So I got

A Quantum Mythology by Gavin G. Smith
Hannu Rajaniemi's short stories
The Stone Man by Luke Smithherd

I have no clue what two of these are, so I decided to trust Amazon and go with them.

I would recommend reading just the first book. The second is decent but the last was terrible. Amph liked it but general consensus is that lit sucks. And don't read Armada too.

I've only read the first of Ryan's books but I was intending to get to the others sooner or later. And I was looking forward to Armada. Oh dear.



I bought Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel on the recommendation of a friend. Only £1.79 on Kindle, so it wasn't much of a gamble.

Barry Hughart's Eight Skilled Gentlemen, Mark Lawrence's King of Thorns/Emperor of Thorns & Peter V. Brett's The Skull Throne. I bought the first book by Lawrence and the first three books of the Demon Cycle in London (among other books) and I hate owning unfinished series. I've not read them yet, but at least I own the series - or in Brett's case, the majority of the series. I've also bought the first book from the guy the Witcher game is based on, which also turned out to be a series, but the rest of those will have to wait. I'm out of money XD

The Lawrence books are short and sweet. Easy to knock out all three in less time than you'd do a Malazan book.

I'm aaalmost done with The Inheritance Trilogy so I bought Jemisin's brand new short story triptych from the same world.

I haven't bought it yet, but I've been trawling the bookstore recently to see if Chuck Wendig's STAR WARS: AFTERMATH has been shelved early (street date is Sep 3)...as I'm chomping at the bit to read the New Canon official version of the post ROTJ events...I mean we are talking about an ACTUAL canonistic continuation of a movie that came out in 1983...I'm kind of jazzed to read it...and Wendig is a fine choice.

Most of them were YA (Pullman, Flanagan, Nix, MacHale, Eddings, etc), but I found a few that I've been wanting (King Rat has been on my wishlist for years, and I've never read any Feist or Williams):
