FWIW, i enjoyed this book. Not much in the way of shocking twists or novel ideas, but the story is well told and the characters are interesting.

It's a good book, though I felt that (a) there was a bit too much ridiculous sex (it's not overwhelming, but you'll notice), and (:D I thought Jemisin was holding back a bit, as if not to go too weird and OTT on the first run out.

The sequels, however, are just excellent, so it's a good series to get into.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Preordered The Dark Defiles hardcover. I know the paperback is already out, but does anyone know what happened to delay the hardcover by more than a month?

Nice acquisitions!

I just can't get into Cornwell's writing. It just rubs me so hard the wrong way for some reason.

You still need to get that Instrumentalities book, I have enjoyed them, except for the newest which I haven't bought yet
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

I'd suggest reading the Arthurian books first. Derfal is a cool character. After you read them go to the Saxon series, because Uhtred is even cooler than Derfal.

I enjoyed it as much as king (my favourite of the three) but for different reasons, I found it to be much funnier

This is what I've heard, so that's good to know. Thanks!

Also, was anyone else aware that Anne Rice has written a new entry into the Vampire Chronicles (after having again left Christianity)? It's called PRINCE LESTAT, and concerns the direct fallout to the events of THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. With Akasha dead, the vampire world is in chaos, and it sounds like they begin to look toward Lestat (the most known vampire name on earth) as a leader to bring them out of it. Apparently all your favourites return in the story, including Louis, Armand, David Talbot, and Marius.

Considering how much I loved the first 3 Chronicles books (and was lukewarm on both the 4th book and the 5th), I've pre-ordered this as I'm REALLY curious about it.
