Okay good! Your language was vague and I thought this could be a case of "The Book I bought today is..." thread fraud.

Sebastien de Castells four greatcloaks book, Tyrants Throne

Bought it yesterday ( to keep myself right with worry)

Bernard Cornwells 'Fools and Mortals' arrived in the post yesterday too.

All I need now is some time to read!

Let me know how this is. I'm really curious to see Cornwell step into Elizabethan stuff.

Same please!

Also, La Belle Sauvage is sitting on the table looking accusatory because I haven't opened it yet!

Last week I finished off the first omnibus of Lindsay Buroker's Fallen Empire series. I've been pretty wary of self-pub authors, but this was well-written, good old-fashioned popcorn space opera fun. The first book is free on Amazon.com if you want to check out, and the omnibus (prequel, books 1-3, plus a short story) is only $0.99. (You can also sign up for her mailing list and get the prequel, another short, and additional scenes from later books all for free.)

I hate you SMZ.

Just ordered Harbring of Storms, Master of the House of Darts which I've wanted for a long time but always put off for later, also Vallista which likely will find itself at the top of the to read pile.

Picked up Deadhouse Landing at Barnes. They don’t care about release date for Esselmont like they do for Sanderson. No Oathbringer here.

Walked into Chapters to see if my orders were in.

Naturally, I browse through the SFF section..... and sitting on the shelf is is the MMPB of Stephen Hunt's 3rd Far-Called novel. Grabbed without even thinking, since there's no telling if it'd still be there in a week.

Finally picked up my order:

GreatCoats #2
Luna by Ian McDonald

Also, on the strength of the half the previous book I've read up to now, the latest Kateamine fix Magic Binds I'm almost caught up in the series, guess I'll be looking for a new UrbF fix soon...

Black Friday haul from the Ottawa Chapters:

"Midnight Riot" by Ben Aaronovitch (never seen his stuff in stores in TO), giving Peter Grant series a try
"Willful Child" by SE-- on the one hand, it's in mmpb and it IS SE. On the other hand, I never watched Star Trek , so we'll see how I feel about this one.
Also, a non-fiction book, lying in the pile of bargain books- The War of the Roses by Dan Jones. By English history is pretty spotty, and this feels like a good blank to fill. Hardcover for only 10 bucks, with 10/% off, how could I say no?

I loved the Peter Grant books, though it has to be admitted that the true charm of the series lies in the character development that happens over time

@Ment - Next time try Perfect Books on Elgin. Way smaller than Chapters but they go for a more eclectic sff selection if you're shopping for dead tree.

Fwiw, I never watched Star Trek either and enjoyed Willful Child a lot.

This order finished arriving.

I am becoming progressively annoyed at publishers being unable to maintain a consistent paperback format.

I am going to start an Inn thread on the merits of various e-readers.

Yes, what's driving me to go paperless is less the cost, less the worry for the trees, and more the fact that the varying book formats offend my aesthetic sensibilities when they are a mishmash on by bookshelves.
