Fall of Light - Erikson

Sharp Ends - Abercrombie
I didn't even know this one was coming out, so that was a pleasant surprise at the bookstore

the Great Book of Amber - Zelazny
Never read this and I've seen it thrown around as one of the great works of fantasy so when I saw the omnibus version I grabbed it.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.

The first 5 (Corwin) books are great, the next 5 (Merlin), not so good.

I really struggled with Amber, I think I just about finishes Corwin 1 and never went back.

I recently put an order down for Staveley's 'Unhewn Throne book 1'

This is a solid, solid series. I just bought book 3 myself. Books 1 and 2 were great reads. Hopefully he sticks the landing.

I'm hoping it's good. I've seen a lot of good things said - then again I'm now leery of that, being that a steaming pile of shite like Way of Kings is showered with glowing reviews as well. We'll see.

In the meantime I've just picked up issues 11-13 of Attack on Titan and issue 1 of Akame ga Kill!.

Haven't read book 3 yet but I have it on my Kobo.
Enjoyed books one and two, nothing like the trite cloche ridden branderson offering Maark, have no fear. Might not be quite dark enough for you but solid action and intrigue

Went to pick up my last Chapters order.

Picked up a non-fiction book- "The Fortunes of Africa" by Martin Meredith. I've been eyeing it for a while, but the hardcover was ridiculously expensive, so I was waiting for the softcover- which is still rather large.

"Katabasis", the kind-of direct sequel to the Mongoliad, by a bunch of authors (no Neal Stephenson this time).

Also grabbed "Stand on Zanzibar"

Got a $10 promo card. So I guess i'll check out that Ilona Andrews urbf, and if I like it i'll spend the card on Bk2.

Continuing my journey through Tad Williams that I've not yet read, I ordered WAR OF THE FLOWERS (which I know Abyss likes), and THE VERY BEST OF TAD WILLIAMS (short fiction anthology).

After I finish those, all that's left is the 3rd and 4th Shadowmarch books, and the OTHERLAND books...oh, and TAILCHASER.

LOL, not intentionally, but yes.

I want to be caught up by the time the first of the new Osten Ard books drops in January 2017 (and hopefully have re-read (or listened to) MS&T again.

I could almost be tempted to reread MSnT just to determine whether I truly hated it as much as I remember I did.

But nah, life's too short and the potential property damage when the Elves start singing isn't worth it.

OTHERLAND... great trilogy in four parts but not reread worthy for me. Too much filler skimmer.

FLOWERS I could reread someday.

Haven't tried SHADOWMISC yet due to my divided feelings about Tad's work and mediocre comments from people I trust. Probably will someday.

MS&T shifted easily into my Top 5 fave series after reading it...how could you hate it so? Also, the Sithi singing is rare enough that I barely remember it happening. But yeah, I love the series.

This is how I hate it so: Book 1 is a travelogue with essentially one major event that is just barely described. Like a thousand pages waiting for something interesting to happen and it occupies maybe the last ten pages. But ok, fine, something cool happened, Tad had my attention, let's do this... cue Book 2 a travelogue involving even more people travelling and not much else besides a lot of whining and insecurity by the main characters. Book 3 is almost 75% setup for the finale, manages to still involve a lot of slogging around AND FUCKING ELVES WAGING WAR BY SINGING AT EACH OTHER. One character spends the entire book wandering around a dungeon being uphappy about wandering around a dingeon. Then stuff happens that vaguely rips off the end of LoTR and everyone lives happily ever fucking after except for a couple of supporting character killed off so we could pretend characters were at risk.

Glad to witness the Canadian Civil War beginning right here on this board.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
