Dancer's Lament is only $16 at Book Depository. Couldn't help myself.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Was down @ the Eatons Centre Indigo, picking out a book for a friend's b-day. Saw they had the first half of the "book of the Long Sun" in stock, so grabbed it promptly.

I just bought This Census Taker by China Mieville and Dancer's Lament by this guy named Esslemont. It makes me realise I haven't read much, hm, classical fantasy lately.

Chapters had some promo if you bought over $30 worth of bks this weekend... And I was in the area, cuz buying a weekly bus pass...
Chris Wooding- "Ace of Skulls", the last Ketty Jay novel.
Ken Liu- "The Grace of Kings"- been eyeing this one for a while, and now it's finally gone mmpb (albeit a really weird 19 x 10.5 cm format). sounds like Asian-inspired epic fantasy- and always interested in checking those out.
Adrian Tchaikovsky- "Guns of the Dawn". sounds like another "musket + sorcery" book (I've been noticing they're in vogue lately). Bought purely on the strength of the ending for the Shadow of the Apt

Bought the Earthsea cycle in Ukrainian and The Lies of Locke Lamora in French. Learning English worked that way, let's see if freshening up those two languages the same way will work as well.

Haven't bought books in a while (sort of, I can justify it any damned way I please!!!)
Jumped onto kobo bookstore and bought ATs new one, guns of the dawn, cornwells latest uthred book, warriors of the storm. And ICEs Dancers Lament.
Then I realised I haven't actually read Assail yet, so bought it too.
I only intended on picking up one book I swear!!

Dear Malazan forums:
My wallet hates you.
My epic Toronto bookstore crawl:
Non-SFF
Max Brooks- World War Z
Dan Brown - "Angels and Demons" - been thinking about reading that one for a long time. seemed like a good occasion to grab it.
James Clavell - "Shogun" - forum recco
Cormac McCarthy- "Blood Meridian" - forum recco
Gregory David Roberts- "Shantaram" - heard about this one from my grandparents, actually. description sounded interesting.
Standalones
Lauren Beukes- "Zoo City" - forum recco, I think?
E.R. Eddison- "The Worm Ouroboros" - also a "classic" SFF read.
Nick Harkaway- The Gone-Away World- Forum recco
Walter M. Miller Jr- "A canticle for Leibowitz" - been meaning this "classic" for a while
Nnedi Okorafor- "Who fears Death" - forum recco
Tim Powers- "Anubis Gates" - forum recco
Peter Watts- "Blindsight" - forum recco
First in a series
Ilona Andrews - "Magic Bites" - Andorion and QT peaked my interest, and the blurb sold me (I'm a hopeless sucker for a techno-magic setting)
R.S. Belcher- Six-Gun Tarot- Forum recco
Sebastian de Castell- "Traitor's Blade" - forum recco
Glen Cook- "The Tyranny of night" - been looking for this one, cuz I wanted to try this series.
Robin Hobb- "Assassin's Apprentice" - been meaning to try this one for a while
Stephen Hunt- "In Dark Service"- Forum recco
Kameron Hurley- "The Mirror Empire" - forum recco.
Jay Kristoff - "Stormdancer" - forum recco
Carrie Patel- "The Buried Life" - ok, this one I actually found myself. Saw book 2, read the blurb which sounded interesting, decided to grab the first book.
Brian Staveley- "The Empreror's Blades" - forum recco
Marc Turner- "when the heavens fall" - forum buzz + interesting blurb.
Brent Weeks- "Black Prism"- been meaning to try Weeks out, but Night Angel didn't sound like my type of book.
Other
Neal Asher- Dark Intelligence
James Corey- "Abaddon's Gate"
Neil Gaiman - "Neverwhere"
Peter F. Hamilton- "The Evolutionary Void" (I liked the first one, but this series is on hold, untill I can hunt down a copy of "Judas unchained"
N. K. Jemisin - the Inheritance Trilogy - forum recco
Richard Morgan- "The Cold Commands" (TSR was ok. I want to see if this series gets good) + Black Man (been hunting for this for a while)
Neal Stephenson- Vol 3 of the Mongoliad- Volume 2 was pretty weak, but I want to see how it ends. and given that Vol 3 is almost as thick as 1 and 2 together, I'm ready to be proven wrong
Jeff Vandermeer- the Souther Reach Trilo- because I loved Amberghis
Tad Williams- "Sleeping Late on Judgment Day"- the last Bobby Dollar book.
I think I have a problem....

I wish. As I've mentioned elsethread, I was mistakenly charged the full fee for my indoor team's registration costs. As a result, the rest of my team had to re-pay me. And I ended up with a lot of cash I wasn't going to deposit and had to spend instead.

Holy crap dude! I've bought that many books at one time before - at the Lifeline bookfest where you could fill a shopping bag for less than $30. I sure hope you have rent, food and utilities already covered. ![:p](https://forum.malazanempire.com/public/style_emoticons/Malazan/p.gif)
That reminds me - I have to note when they're on. Missed the first Brisbane one of the year.![:nuke:](https://forum.malazanempire.com/public/style_emoticons/Malazan/nuke.gif)
OK Next Brisbane one is 25 June - 3 July.
Ipswich is 5-7 August.
Noted on calendar.![:p](https://forum.malazanempire.com/public/style_emoticons/Malazan/p.gif)

Well, I still live at home. And since it's Lent right now, entertainment expenses (alcohol, bars, eating out) are cut to basically nothing for a month and a half.
Though to be fair, I probably won't be buying books again until close to the end of summer now.

Yeah, and his Rifter series is too, which I highly recommend. Fucking great buys, though. I love every one of those, especially Gone-Away World and Traitor's Blade, those two are phenomenal - And, I just started Staveley's latest book and it's awesome.

How did you carry all of that?
Large packpack and a big, rectangular paper shopping bag.
to be fair, one of the handles on the bag DID rip off towards the end of the day, so I had to carry it at chest level with both hands. But the arms feel fine this morning.

I think I have a problem...
I grabbed "the Dervish House" off Chapters a few weeks ago, b/c it was on sale.
Then when I went to pick it up, I wanted to get rid of a prepaid credit card that only had like 10 bucks on it. So I grabbed the first "Iron druid" novel
Then Book Depository had 2 of my wishlist books on sale - "River of Gods" and "Tregiliss' "The Coldest War"...
Then Chapters had another big bonus plum points event, and I used it to order a few books off my list that I didn't see in stores
Age of Godpunk: James Lovegrove
Judas Unchained Peter F. Hamilton
Fractal Prince Hannu Rajaniemi
Crooked Little Vein: A Novel Warren Ellis
The War Of The Flowers Tad Williams
And now Book depository is having big discounts on the few Moorcock novels I don't have yet, And I've really gotten into Eternal Champion, and I have an untapped prepaid, and I saw that some books in the Moorcock collection are already out of stock and my scarcity reflex is kicking in...
I think I have enough unread books in my house right now to last a year (Ironic thing is, right now I'm re-reading FoD for the past 3 weeks)
But i can't stop....

You have to tell whoever's giving you all these prepaid cards to switch over to brand-specific cards. It'll mean lots of solo trips to Olive Garden, but you can read while you eat. Noodles make decent bookmarks, relative to other foods.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Ebooks are coming. Once I buy an e-reader. Which will happen when I run out of books for my commute (which is mostly the Moorcock collection)
Incidentally, the bookdepository sale has some author my mom likes on cheap, and she told me "if you're orderin anything, get it for me"
....
I don't think I have much choice anymore.

When others need stuff, you GOTTA step up....and you may as well order some stuff for yourself while you are at it.
