Considering my enjoyment of the first book I grabbed David Gemmell's TROY: SHIELD OF THUNDER today, looking forward to continuing the story!

An Introduction to Garrett, P.I.

My bookstore is also transferring in a copy of The Dragon's Path, so I'll have that in a couple days as well.

Today was a good day for my TRP...
Batman: Detective Comics #1 in hardback,
The Daemon Prism by Carol Berg
Flesh and Spirit by Carol Berg
Caliban's War by James S.A. Corey
Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds (after heavy recommendations elsethread)
The Hobbit and the Simirillion by Tolkien (entirely your fault QT. Saw your posts about reading his works and it got me thinking of it again.)
All in all, my bookshelves were very happy with me today.

I pre-ordered it last week, but it shipped today: The Devil Delivered by one Mr. Steven Erikson. As well as Ready Player One, to see what that's all about.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

On topic: I recently picked up the first 2 Peter V Brett books "The Painted Man" and "The Desert Spear" in the cheap pile. Score!

I'm debating buying Daniel Wilson's Robopocalypse but I don't know...I read a sample on my Kindle and I thought it was just ok but it's always hard to tell from a sample. Has anyone here read it? Should I bother investing my $12 on it?

Oi Abyss!
It's NOT a huge disappointment, it merely means that Abyss prefers Zombies to Robots...as ROBOPOCALYPSE is basically WORLD WAR Z with Robots instead of Zombies.
It's decent, but not worth $12 by any stretch...when it's cheaper or you find it used, give it a go as it IS at least entertaining.
In the meantime if you want a GREAT book about humans interacting with AI, check out THE STORIES OF IBIS by Hiroshi Yamamoto as it was amazing!

HERE is the thread. Make up your own mind but note spoilers.
QT you liked it way more than i did and that's fair, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it however wrong and silly and clearly the product of mind-altering drugs and poor street alcohol that it may be.
But my dislike was neither that it is not WWZ, nor that it's robots. While WWZ is an excellent book, i was not expecting WWR and went in with an open mind.
But the story makes leaps of logic that make no sense, key points in the plot are just silly, it falls back on, literally, deus ex machina, more than once, and the narrative is weak.
But that's just my opinion.
For $5>, sure, in an second, why not.... for $12, n'uh-uh. On this i agree w QT. Spend your money on something less frustrating.

I found it about as enlightening as Wise Man's Fear was to Name of the Wind, if that. Great book though.
