I have no willpower whatsoever. I already have 80+ books on my TBR pile and I went into Smiths on the way home last night - cos I noticed the day before that they had the 2nd and 3rd books in Cornwell's 'Grail Quest' trilogy and they were in great condition. So I went in to get those, then also found they had two other books I wanted in a 'buy 1 get 1 half price' deal Posted Image

So ...

Vagabond by Bernard Cornwell
Heretic by Bernard Cornwell

I love Cornwell (have read all the Arthur and Saxon books, working my way through the Sharpe books), but have never tried the Grail books. Are they good? I know that one character from Agincourt is apparently at least distantly related to Thomas of Hookton...and I've read that one.

I really enjoyed the first one, Harlequin. I'd say it wasn't quite as good as his Arthurian trilogy, but those set the bar so high I'm not really surprised - it was still hugely enjoyable and I'm looking forward to reading the other two I bought, above.

Nice! :p Orbus is my favourite Asher so far, I think. Have you read Prador Moon?

Worth it?

Having read only 1-3, yes, very much so. The embedding into American society is expertly done even if some stories lack truly interesting content (although the Great and Powerful Turtle rocks, despite being just a chump in a car) and once the saga starts getting into gears and you meet Fortunato in his full glory (literally), the bollocks is on. Also, you can't help but admire the creativity in superhero design these writers came up with.

I can't speak for 4-10, of course, but a quick wiki search shows that at the least some early characters live on and keep getting stories - a good thing if you liked them.

Finally broke down and got a kindle. I have to admit that I'm in love with this thing already. Kinda wish I'd had it when I was reading The Way of Kings. I also bought the new Temeraire novel Crucible of Gold in hardback. Finally I got leatherbound copies of Hondo and Lando by Louis L'Amour as my tribute to the anniversary of my father's passing. They were the ONLY books I ever saw him read.

Loaned from a friend: Paolo Bacigalupi's _The Windup Girl_, which I look forward to starting real soon now.

Nice, I loved this book.

I adored Windup Girl, actually, and I bought Pump Six right after I finished it...it's not 100% necessary to read P6 first, but it does 'fill in the blanks', so to speak.
As for American Gods I really did enjoy it, for the most part. I think it's largely because I had zero expectations going in, so I was pleasantly surprised. :wallbash:

Right now I'm still waiting for my copy of Stepford Wives to arrive, I'm annoyed because it shipped on March 5th (the same day as AG) and I still don't have it. I haven't bought anything else since then, unfortunately.

Had a 40% off coupon for Half Price Books, so today I picked up Star Wars: Riptide for $2.50ish.

Last Friday I also nabbed a copy of Robert E. Howard's The Haunter of the Ring & Other Tales, part of the Wordsworth's Tales of Mystery and the Supernatural series.

This evening I'll probably use my HPB coupon to get The Thousandfold Thought and complete my PoN trilogy.

The Saxon stories is my favorite Cornwell series. I'll be picking up Death of Kings as soon as I finish Perdido Street Station.

That might be my favourite book by Cook, yet it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Second hand stores are the bane of my TRP...

Just bought THE HORUS HERESY, first three books..., NOT THE THREE MUSKETEERS by the late Joel Rosenberg, loved his Guardians of the Flame series, so i couldn't resist.... and MONSTER by Lee Martinez, read the first chapter online a while ago and liked well enough...

Gah... its becoming just silly how many great books i have backlogged...

I enjoyed the Jack Whyte Arthur books. I loaned the first couple out a few years ago and never got them back. Need to replace them so I can reread the series.

Good to know - I'm quite looking forward to them.

Added another one to my TBR pile on the way home last night:

Gates of Fire - Steven Pressfield
