Being probably the largest Neil Gaiman fan on the forum I can say this with all honesty. It is the least good of all his books. It has some interesting ideas and plot progressions, but I think it strayed too far from the AG source material to be as good as it could have been. Still good, just not the best in his repertoire.

Purchased for the Kindle the following, all by Glen Cook: Petty Pewter Gods, Faded Steel Heat, Darkwar and A Matter of Time. I've read the Garrett books, I want the Kindle editions as well as the physical copies.

_The Hunger Games_ by Suzanne Collins, to see what the fuss is about.
_Theft of Swords_ by Michael J Sullivan, based on recs from Abyss among others.

Found Mieville's The Scar on the clearance rack for $1 today, had to pick that up. Now I'm really feeling the urge to start in on Perdido Street Station.

No omnibus but I'm going for the whole collection via used bookstore. Thus far I've got If you Give a Pig a Pancake, a Party, If you take a Mouse to School, give a Cookie, and If you Give a Moose a Muffin. I actually like these better than a lot of her books. Got any other good suggestions? She's 2.5 yrs old and I've got another girl on the way. I kind of just browse and get whatever catches my eye, or whatever she sees and holds on to till the finish line.

The Mary Engelbreit Mother Goose/Fairy Tales/Nursery Rhymes books are perennial favorites. Good illustrations, perfect length, and they have been edited so eliminate too-scary bits or so that the female character doesn't always marry at the end.

It isn't always possible, but I try to steer my kids away from licensed-character stuff (Disney, etc.) because it's usually pretty bad.

These books are supposed to be a role-reversal game, where the parent (as pigeon) acts whiny and the kid gets to say "NO!" There's not actually a story. So it's entertaining for about 30 seconds.

I would say don't spend the money, just borrow from the library.

Disagree. I find them endlessly entertaining. I read them to Mrs. QT's nephew in a funny voice and he loves them. These kids are 2 or 3...they don't need story-heavy stuff. It's enough to show them pictures of vegetables and get them to say the words, or show them pictures of pets where they can feel the fur, or pop up stuff.

@Baco: If you have an iPad, my VERY fave story from when I was a kid is available as an App from iTunes. NORBERT NIPKIN, it's wonderfully whimsical and rhyming in lovely ways. I made my mum read it every night as a kid. WELL worth the money.

Picked up a copy of _Tigana_ by G G Kay. Haven't reread it since I was first blown away by it about 15 years ago. Hoping it stands up to my memory.

Nice, Kay is a superb writer and Tigana holds good memories for me too - though it's not as good as Lions of AlRassan.

THE TEMPLAR CROSS - Paul Christopher (Thriller in the James Rollins-style)

THE WOMAN IN BLACK - Susan Hill (the movie looks freaky and the novella looks like a quick read)

FLASHMAN - George Macdonald Fraser (I've heard many good reviews of this puply series, so I look fwd to seeing what the hype is about)
