Just bought Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis. I've been looking forward to these for quite a while. 50 pages into Blackout and it as good as I could have hoped - and the real story hasn't even started yet. I'm wondering if she will tie these in to the bigger story hinted at in To Say Nothing of the Dog or whether they will stand on their own considerable merits.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Just ordered Alloy of Law, Warbreaker and Elantris by Sanderson. Was only planning on getting Alloy of Law but once I became aware that all his book series are set in the same "Universe" I knew I would go nuts if I didn't just read them all.

That's interesting. They might even be non-fiction tales from the actual worlds our Earth's Mormons go to when they die, so in essence, it's our universe too.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Also get Way of Kings (if you don't already have it).

I'd disagree, but I'm thinking I've already said enough in the Way of Kings thread over in the Sanderson sub-forum.

I just read this recently, then promptly went out and got the other 2 Ghosts Omnibus'. I wouldn't pay full price for a single book, but 3-5 of em is a pretty good value. Certainly not the deepest writing, but Abnett knows how to write some fun battle scenes

Indeed, I read a few chapters to make sure my purchase was a good one, and enjoyed those chapters wholeheartedly, so I'll be excited to get properly stuck into the book soon.

I had a $10 in my pocket when I saw this at Half Price Books today, so I grabbed it.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Christmast presents. Lots and lots of Christmas presents.
I Am Legend - for a cousin studying bioengineering
Retribution Falls - for another cousin who just turned 18
Snow Crash - for a cousin who just finished a masters in computer engineering.
Too Big to Fail - for my Brother who's got a master in economics
A collection of books by Oliver Sacks - for my mum
A big pile of conspiracy crime novels - which I'll divide between my Dad and my Step-dad later.
A whole bunch of harry potter/twilight genre books - for my sister
YA spy novels - for my youngest brother
The Help - for my step-mum.
A book of Norwegian fairytales (and a bottle of wine)- for my oldest cousin who recently spawned a new member of my massive family.
Several bottles of wine to be split amongst a number of family members, mainly my parents and grandparents.

Just purchased yesterday from Pulp Fiction bookstore during my once-every-3-months visit:
Chris Wooding - The Iron Jackal (Awwwwww yeahhhhhh! )
Richard Kadrey - Sandman Slim (pimped by Shiara)
Celia Freidman - Wings of Wrath; Legacy of Kings
Michael J Sullivan - Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations books 1 and 2), because the cover looked snazzy, the blurb was interesting, the map is cool and the print is large
Janny Wurts - Initiate's Trial (following this series through inertia and little else these days, she'll finish it one day)
Peter F Hamilton - Manhattan in Reverse (short stories)
