Greg Bear? Funny, I've read a Star Trek, a Star Wars, and a Foundation book, all by him, as well as the first couple of his Eon books. I enjoyed Rogue Planet, but it never really stuck with me, though I liked the NJO tie-in, naturally.

I was a huge fan of his early sci-fi work, especially the EON series. For that Star Wars one, i thought he did a great job tying together the old Star Wars universe, and the New Jedi Order stuff without it seeming forced.

Equally, I think he did a magnificent job merging the Foundation and Robot series in his one of the recent Foundation trilogy. I thought Gregory Benford's book was crap, Greg Bear's one was great and recovered the trilogy, and David Brin did a decent job finishing it off.

^ This. The Benford book is absolutely atrocious. Bear's was decent. But man, Brin hit the ball out of the park with his. I absolutely LOVE the way he tied Asimov's Galactic Empire books directly into the Robots/Foundation saga.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

...Just placed an order through alibris.com for Caine Black Knife (new), Blade of Tyshalle (used, good condition) and Heroes Die (new). 3 books: $AU26.
Shipping: $AU40. Zounds!

There are all sorts of 30 day free shipping deals but I'm leery of those (especially as I live Down Under, and there's always a catch), I'll wait to see if other people rate them positively after using them a few times.

Oh well ... if it isn't worth it I'll skin Abyss and use his fur as a toilet mat. :D

I think you're being [mandatory bad word in stover related post] fucking [/mandatory bad word in stover related post] gouged on the shipping, but you won't be disappointed.

Noted, but it's still Star Wars, which means at no point is Chebacca going to club anyone to death with C3P0.

I think you're vastly underrating what Stover is allowed to get away with within the SW EU. ...

Hmmm. Noted. Perhaps i'll library fu them, even tho i am certain Han Solo at no point uses his thumb to pop someone's eyeball.

~ Infinity, hates his vegetables, only pure red meat for me.

Bought the Dresden books today, three in one go.

Have to admit, I read it, struggled with it all day.

Not really Dresdencrack for me, more like Dresden Cabbage.

Dropped in on Pulp Fiction bookstore in the city today and picked up:

Jim Butcher - Ghost Story
GRRM - A Dance with Dragons (yeah, I caved like a little bitch)
Charles Stross - The Atrocity Archives
John Scalzi - Old Man's War
Kevin Hearne - Hounded
Brandon Sanderson - The Way of Kings (MMPB, single volume, looks like US edition with blue and reddish cover)

Just helping them pay the rent. ;)

After laying off purchasing any books for awhile I went on a mini-spree at Half Priced Books and Amazon today.

Picked up:

The Starfishers Trilogy by Glenn Cook
The Risen Empire and The Killing of Worlds by Scott Westerfeld(after seeing a mention about these on this board)
The Ones Who Hit the Hardest by Chad Millman and Shawn Coyne

Storm Front. Is this the first step on a slippery slope?

Yes, but it's a gravity-defying upward-trending slippery slope of goodness.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I finally got Side Jobs and Ghost Story, but after reading Side Jobs, I'm now going to read Changes again before starting on GS.

Picking up Dresden after reading anything else really does highlight why it's called Dresdencrack... just... can't... put...down..
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Dresden is going to cause me to buy a cushy toilet seat one of these days.
