"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Just arrived from Amazon:
Sam Harris: _Letter To A Christian Nation_
Jason Long: _Biblical Nonsense: A Review of the Bible for Doubting Christians_
Victor Stenger: _God: The Failed Hypothesis_
Christopher Hitchens: _The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings For The Nonbeliever_
I think I may be wearing my allegiance on my sleeve somewhat.

The Atrocity Archives by Charlie Stross,
and Books 1 and 2 of The Celestial Empire series by Chris Roberson.
Uncertain about either but they were on sale 2nd hand so investment was minimal (and the forum saved me from purchasing a Maggie Furey trilogy) and i try to support 2nd hand book stores where i can.

Today I picked up Bernard Cornwell's newest book THE BURNING LAND (5th in the Saxon series), and for a non-fiction chaser Richard Dawkin's THE GOD DELUSION.

I had a few coupons and incentive thingies to use up at Chapters, so i got RT/BS' THE GATHERING STORM for less than $20. To round off the purchase i picked up THE BLOOD OF ELVES, by Andrej Icannotrememberiwcz, - safe bet as i liked the first Witcher book...
and
GHOST OCEAN by SM Peters... i have to admit, i went on the strength of his first book WHITECHAPEL GODS, which i utterly enjoyed, and i was in a rush, so i didn't read the blurb til i got home... but the blurb on this book reads like every other urban fantasy young woman becomes Buffy with magic lasers story out there... i was a little annoyed... so just now i did a quick random run thru online reviews... and i cannot find a negative. Seriously, the closest i found to 'negative amounted to 'the title says ghost but there are no ghosts in the book!'...i'm sure i could dig, but seven utterly random googled reviews were glowing, so i may move it ahead of TGS.
- Abyss, psyched.

Read the charlie stross recently. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's not bad. For all its flaws, there are some pretty good bits.

Let us know what you think of that one maccy. I've got it sitting on my bookshelf, waiting to be read in a year or so when it finally gets to the front of the queue.
The book I got for free today was China Mieville's The City and the City. Damaged stock at work is given away. Best. Job. Ever.

To quote Kelis... "I. HATE YOU. SO MUCH. RIGHT NOW!! ARRRGGGHHHH!" Now all you need to do is get a transfer to one of the Manchester branches so I can shamelessly take advantage of your Staff Discount...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. You know what, that would make me an extremely happy bunny! Dunno if it's likely to be possible though
'Byss - cheers. I've not read any Wooding for about 5 years since the Braided Path, so I was torn between Ketty Jay and the Fade. Hoping I picked the right one

I scored an SFBC edition of The Bonehunters at Half Price Books today for $7. Sweet! Now I have books 3-7 in mini-hardcover awesomeness.

Continuing in theme from the previous posts, the book I got free today was Ian Macdonald's Cyberabad Days Hopefully it's as good as Brasyl without being quite so mind-numbingly confusing towards the end.
