So what is actually depicted in the picture? Are the armored soldiers in the foreground Seerdomin or is it Greyswords that have advanced to far and are being overwhemled?

Itkovian and greyswords fighting tenescowri, yes.
Originally I wanted Brukhalian waving his black sword leading some cavalry units, but it sort of just evolved into what you see.
Didn't really do any research for this one. City layout is probably way off.
Hell, I even put the necromancers in there too, so the sky wouldn't look so empty.
Now that I think about it, maybe I should have cut out the uppermost part of the painting.
Hmm... That does look better. *Changed*

Wow, I never thought Merlkir's depiction would ever be equalled. I have been proved wrong, they are both simply spectacular paintings!

Those are both frickin' awesome! Seriously, I can't draw stick figures so people with your kind of talent honestly bring a tear to my eye...Melkir, blush all you want but you have craaaaaazy skills! And Urb, I love your take on it too, especially the splashes of color / blood here and there, it really keeps my attention.
Honestly, SE should consider both of you for his next cover...the idea of a collaboration just makes me grin.

Awesome picture of course...but weren't Itkovian and them inside the city during the battle?

Artistic license aside, the grey swords led several sorties out of the main gate, to continue their advances and probably also in an attempt to get to officers and stashes of valuable ressources.

Damn, Urb! Where did that come from?! It's amazing
And now, behold my epic masterpiece:

How do you like them apples?
And now you know why I don't do "action shots".

I'm not so sure about that.
The one you did for the contest was pretty cool.

why, thank you very much:D
I was quite happy with it, but I used a lot of reference photos for it. That seems to be the key for me:)

I have to admit, it was your original pic in this thread that inspired me to get a tablet in the first place.

This. Is. Awesome. Would you mind if we cropped out the border so as to showcase the image on our homepage? We only have a 760x570 pixel area to play with, you see

Well, someone already asked me about that on DA, here's a newer updated version without the border:

Rake photo, hmm if in Dragon form, his battle against the demon above Darijhistan in Book one, in Tiste andii form maybe his battle against daseem. That way you get two of the best in one shot. yeah that Itkovian scene was brutal. I couldn't get Capustan out of my mind for days after reading that scene, just out of control. I've read MOI those most times out of the series. It is the book where I really found Rake as my favorite character along with Paran and Itkovian. Grey swords were awesome.

Awesome stuff Merklir
I saw this on DA a while back, I'll have to fav it twice now
Really love the gruesome feel to it all,
now If you are looking for a good pre-MT scene of anomander, I think the scene with him fighting the demon lord
soletaken would be perfect. hmmm Its in GotM I think, and if you want his most epic scenes try get your hands on Toll of the Hounds.
Rake is at his best towards the end of that book, still the most amazing part of the
series for me so I think you might want to give it a look...
