we know that Trull was the Knight of Shadow only thru Fids game rite???
i mean at the end of tBH it wasnt written and my copy of Reapers Gale didnt have the Deck of Dragons could some1 plz help me out?

this is where Abyss would make you chant 50 times that a card in the reading does NOT equal a position in the deck....

for my part, I'l just say that the whole "Knight of Shadow' business is iffy... I mean, sure, the Deck could have empowered Trull to stand up to Iccy, but how long that would last we were never sure.

I think the point is being missed here... one of the main morals of the series is that gods are dependent and constrained by their worshipers. Gods most likely dont choose their positions in the deck, they refelct the way their followers perceive them. Offhand i can't think of an ascendant who actually got a position in the deck they tried for, yet there's several who had it thrust upon them.

You have learned well, Disciple.

Point being however...

1. Knight, Champion, Soldier, Mortal Sword.... in the House sense, or the god/worshipper sense, (as opposed to in the Deck sense which per Kud is a different thing) these are all variations on a theme - a powerful individual who is invested with further power by a God or similar source to act on their behalf. Karsa, by example, was described as both Knight and Mortal Sword. Rake is a Knight, but Clip claims to be his Mortal Sword (iirc), Dassem was a Knight, but technically could have his own Knight or Mortal Sword once he became Dessembrae...

2. Baudin died. Hood took his soul and most of his body, invested power in him, and made him his new Knight. Thus, imnsho, Baudin is now an Ascendant. He can die again, just not easily. Heboric was supposed to receive a similar treatment but Laseen interferred by having his hands chopped off, rather than killing him (or rather, having it done).

3. Brys is a conundrum - the Errant via FW, the Empty Hold and either the Tiste generally or just Kurald Emurlahn via the Warlock King all seemed to want to claim him. Plus the forgotten gods and Mael's guardian took an interest. So just what Brys ended up as by the time he was resurrected is fairly open.
