I think its Tennes, but can't quite remember. I also think that those weird things happened with the creatures because of some side affect that he could keep under control, due to the fact that he wasn't that great at making magic.
Now I realise I haven't cleared anything up, but I also don't have my book with me.
Get to the chopper!

is that the guy that, when he opens his warren, everybody around him starts freaking out and stuff (get scared, shit like that). I'm not sure what warren he uses (too lazy to grab the book and find out :D ), but the flipping out side-effect seems to be some kind of Mockra to me.

Why it happens, I think, was explained in the book with the reason that he idd could not control his magic that well... that's also why he kinda dislikes to use his magic, since it frightens him too.

I donèt think they ever mention which warren he uses (since Mockra comes into play later on in the series (MT, I think).
The idea around Spindle is that he's considered to be primarily a sapper, and he deals with Moranth munitions that have a rather energetic effect on magic...
I think the question of Spindle is one that's yet to be answered...

I don't think Chaos had lots to do with it, his warren seems to have had that effect before chaos came into the big picture. Naah, it really is because Spindle couldn't control his magic fair enough, and he let his own emotions flow too much into all creatures... and then projected his own emotions to himself too, thus making himself more emotional, that got projected on the environment again and on and on and on until everybody gets mental and starts gnawing at their tails... and all guys know that must hurt :D

And I believe it's mockra since that's basically the only warren I can think off that could 'easily' make people scared or mental.

I feel it also went into the individual mages level of control - like how it explained with Quick Ben, he was so good with a variety with magic b/c there was a variety of souls within him. So that when he used multiple magics, they became intertwined, just as his soul(s) was/were. So that with Spindle, his fear and uncertainty of his magic (I believe it said somewhere that he was much more comfortable using cussers and whatnot), so that it became a "self fulfilling prophecy" that he was nervous about using magic, and his magic literally made people nervous, so he didn't want to use it. Quick Ben's confidence was in part due to his skill, but his skills built up his confidence!

kud's right you know.. I mean, sappers are the craziest bunch of soldiery in the Malazan Empire. That his warren is all weird and everything shouldn't come as a surprise. He's a sapper for chirst sake.. a magic wielding sapper.. there was some mention in the book when he opened his warren with one hand while getting ready to throw (simultaneously) a moranth munition in the other.. I mean, I wouldn't want to be around the bloke no matter how many assurances I would get from Paran.. Hell, even the Empress wouldn't have been able to make me trust the guy, not that he ain't trustworthy or anything, but you know what I mean...

It's possible the way he uses his magic is twisted by the way he was taught it. It is evident that Spindle has a strong tie with his mother (The stinky Hairshirt) and the little scene with Picker telling Spindle to go have fun and he retorts with "what will mother think?" Well Maybe in the same way some other mages use magic as their elders have taught them (ref Bottle HoC) his magic is altered by a peculiar way he accesses it.

Found the quote I was looking for! MoI Chapter 4 Pg104 Tor Trade Paperback

Paran: ‘Mallet, what warren does Spindle call upon?’ he asked quietly.

Mallet: ‘It’s not his warren that’s the problem, sir; it’s how he channels it.’

There it is from the book!

I think it doesn' t say. For now it will be a mistery. By the way Mallet said that Spindle magic' s strange effects don' t depend on the warren he use but how he use it

I think that Spindle being a sapper is irrilevant

No Mockra appeared in House of Chains

Maybe Spindle's warren is Hoods, Straight after the above quote spindle walks off and ducks and i'm sure someone thinks that they see a mark on his head as if he has been cuffed by someone. Could be the ghost of his mother which would hint at some kind of relationship with hood.
