They all hold the same position in their respective High House. All the houses are damaged in some way. Kurlad Thyrllan is not accesaible from the mortal world, if i remember from MT. Kurald Galain and Dark are linked to Dragnipur. While Kurald Emurlahn is shattered. There have been times that have been hinted at when Osserc and Rake fight the entire world stops hold their breath. Does that mean that Trull, if he had lived would have been to stand his own in a fight. Sure he would have needed a couple of hundred of years to get comforatable with his power. But it would have been an interesting fight. Sure he was getting beat by Silchas Ruin but he really has only been in his own power for a couple of years at the most.

I still have to by some plaster to fill in the hole in my apartment wall when I read Trull dying. I felt he was one of those characters that brought the best out of everyone that he was around. A knight in shining armour if you will.

Hmm. It's ok to mention RG material in the RG forum. Really.

Two obvious counterpoints:

1. The three you mention do not share the same position. Yes, Rake and Trull are or were Knights of their Houses. But Osserc is Champion of Light.

2. Baudin is also a Knight, in this case of Death. Why doesn't he get a look in here?

I was just trying to keep it with the Tiste. And if i rember corectly in the deck of dragons Champion is third in line after king and queen in the house of light just like the knight is third in line for shadow and darkness

trull hasn't displayed any "power" in RG (the way rake does or osric would). he stood his ground just on the basis of his skill. else he wouldn't have died from a simple stab from a normal weapon. Fiddler's reading in BH suggested he ascended to Knight of shadow, but i suppose he was just filling that role temporarily like whiskeyjack or kalam did for other positions. (unless he is resurrected?!@%)

regarding rake and osric, i always thought champion and knight were different names for similar positions in their houses.

As far as i can tell, a position in a house is not correlative to personal power, it seems to have more to do with actions taken and personality type.

I wasn't that upset with Trull dying, i thought it fit his story arc. shocked, but not upset.

I also thought Rake and Osric were the same thing...just different names in their respective houses.

It is interesting that Trull was the Knight of Shadow...i'm completely puzzled as to whether or not we will see him again..

Trull certainly was a full-time Knight of Shadow, it was pointed out by Onrack in RG.

I always thought that Anomander and Osserc's power came from their heritage. They are children of power.

But are we even sure Osserc is actually Liosan?

I mean some even think he is Father Light right?

well i mean he could be father light, he could be father lights first son. we dont know that much about him. but if he was FL then i think rake wouldnt be so casual about him when he talks to killy in the RG prologue(i think it was RG). even rakes gotta stand in some kinda awe toward FL.

I think the destinction is that in HoC, Osserc is described as looking like a liosan. Then again you have Mael looking like a human, Olar Ethil looking like a T'lan Imass, etc.

Nobody knows anything specific about Osserc.

I don't think Rake is in awe of Father Light.

Remember in GotM...when Rake is battling the Demon...and he says "to the mother's regret was light given birth" or something like that..

I think if anything Rake has a strong dislike for whoever or whatever Father Light is.

I get the feeling that Rake and Osseric fighting is more of a game...nothing too serious...because they've obviously never finished it...and there are mentions of Osseric visiting Rake in Moon's Spawn...even though they eventually argued...I think they may even be friends

Osric and Rake are, essentially the kings of their respective Houses, because the other more powerful members eg MD and FL are gone, somewhere, which might also have something to do with it. Whereas Trull was kinda working for ST, like Dassem for Hood, except not sworn servant, more ally, I thought. ST is, according to GotM, Rake's match.
Also, as said before, they are the most powerful of their races... Tho I wonder was Scabandari their match?

As much as we've seen Shadowthrone...we still don't know anything about his power...damn you Erikson!!! *shakes fist*

Rake is a God who pretty much chose Ascendancy over worship as far as I understand it....while Scabandari and Silchas wanted that worship

Getting off track here but regarding ST and Rake, we're talking about two different powers.

Rake is a very powerfull unalligned ascendant warriormage whilst ST is the god of shadow. Rake taps into darkness, ST IS shadow. They are doing two different things and if it came to a magical showdown ST should naturally be a match for Rake. It's not like the old emperor is gonna pick a fistfight with Rake B)

Now if memory serves - and it is only memory cause I can't get to my books right now, someone with their books to hand, please correct me if I'm wrong. The glossaries always mention High House Shadow as having an assassin in the place that other houses have a knight or champion. But we know that Trull was the night of shadow - does this mean that a card was brought into the deck just for him?

Also, for the other notable characters, at least those we are generally meant to like, who died in RG, we see them arrive at Hood's Gate. Beak and Toc. Why didn't we see Trull arrive? Now I'm not saying Trull is going to come back, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
Flying Monkeys definitely win.
