Mayb Fid has more to him with how he plays his games with the deck, he could be some Unalined player outside the deck allowing him to play the game (as in life and war) without having to play by the rules...

Can you imagine Fid as a young teenager, just learning his "skill?"

His dad calling, "Dammit, son, are you in there playing with your Deck again! Don't you know you'll go blind?"

Chuck Norris is EVERYONE's real name.
Because Chuck Norris is everyone.
Unless he doesn't feel like it.
Then he's Chuck Norris.
But never 'just' Chuck Norris.

Fid's real name is quite funny, in that it's clearly not 'Fiddler', but he changed it to 'Strings', which fooled precisely no one...

I wonder whether the 'Fid seems too old in DG for how young he was in GotM' thing is tied to his adventure with Whiskeyjack to recover Dunsparrow... maybe saving her from Hood had a price...

- Abyss, is not Chuck Norris...

Fid is like 60 tho, its not surprising he feels old.

I don't think Fid could end up as MotD, because he's been in too many scrapes for him to be anyone's shaved knuckle. If someone were hiding him, there've been literally hundreds of times he could have been offed with just the breath of the wind going the right way, and I don't think anyone is saying he's got Oponn riding his shoulder or anything.

I also don't like him as Soldier of Life, merely because I don't really like those basically undefined slots in our roster. What would that actually mean? Having just re-read RG, Trull was Knight of Shadows, yes? Did he show any new tendancies? Not really - and he got offed a few hundred pages later. It would feel strange to have someone tied to life whose day job was exploding enemy formations, and leading a squad into the dark to cut throats.

Fid makes more sense as some new unaligned - Human. Or something. Rake's the strongest example of his race - to extrapolate, Karsa Orlong is the strongest Toblakai, Icarium is the strongest Jhag - maybe there's some recognition for the toughest Human to kill.

Or maybe his card would just be an explosion, and whoever pulled it would light on fire.

Fiddler: the Soldier of High House War, maybe?
Karsa is the strongest Tartheno Thelomen Toblakai weve seen. Doesnt mean hes the strongest. I mean, Bellurdan Skullcrusher was a mage, after all, and he seemed quite impressive... Not saying that he could beat Karsa, I love Karsa lol, but that we cant just assume hes the strongest. And according to Bellurdan, all Thelomen have Jaghut blood, meaning Karsa is a Jhag too, albeit a watered down one. And I dont think anyone can compete with Icarium. His rage can beat pretty much anyone. Except Trull... I wonder was the Knight Of Shadow more skilled than Rake the Knight of Darkness? I mean, taking away Rake's Soletaken pwers, his mastery of Galain, Dragnipur, if he was thrust into a fight with Iccy with only a crappy sword, would he live?

thats a very interesting scenario, would rake, son of darkness, survive against iccy with nothing but a simple sword?

but i do think that karsa orlong is the strongest toblakai, otherwise why would he be so central to the plot? and not all thelomen have jaghut blood. thats just my opinion but theres a thread somewhere about it.

Trull lost to Icarium, he held briefly (for 10-30 seconds) which, no doubt, is extremely impressive but Trull was beaten and just about to die after that time.

The answer is Wolverine.

The point is that Fid is a human, seemingly mortal, albeit 'enhanced' by his experiences and the best there is at what he does (making things go 'xsplody), has a pull on the Deck so strong that the Gods of Chance were affected by it.

The theory is that he is, in fact, the shaved knuckle in the hole of the Azath, the Deck, or another factor.

As we saw with Brys in RG, one exceptional individual mortal can be drawn into multiple power structures.

- Abyss, will allow no thread drift before its time.

I've said it before but I think that Fid is a fulcrum or link, a common piece in so many extraordinary events, whether this is due to some power or attribute he was born with or the fact that his experiences have infused him with abilities and gifts and these have snowballed (power attracting power) I'm thinking like the way the Taveren bend events around them in the WoT.

He has been through:

Raraku
Rescue of Dunsparrow from Hood?
Y'Ghatan
Azath/Path of Hands
Beaks Protection
Bridgeburners ascending (this may have no effect until dead)
Tanno spirit walker/song episode
Common link from BBs to BHs

there's more but I can't think of them. All could have efected him, or triggered inate abilites. I like my Taveren theory best though.

Some have suggested he may ultimately be the object of the series.

Edit: Abyss you've out done yourself with your new avatar

I can see Fidd lulling Iccy out of one of his rages with a sad sad song. Then again I can also see him setting a host of nasty explosives under the CGs tent.
Two sides to the same coin. But no one has been paying attention to his edges now have they? That would explain how his "innate abilities" a.k.a power, have gone unnoticed. It's good to not be a load stone, especially when surrounded by so many power-houses.

fids the guy that just does what he has to do, and does it better than anybody else. i think being a non-mage has helped him escape notice, cuz really powerful beings cant sense him killing sh!t, he just does it. now that him and hedge are back together, i shudder, and hope that the pantheon is ready
