Goodkind vs Eddings

What I found absolutely brilliant was that as you read the interview you go past links to all these blogs - mine, Pat's and most notably Sandstorm Reviews - which rip into Terry Goodkind on a very regular basis (well, I don't on the blog, but the other two...).
Without a shadow of a doubt that is the greatest Goodkind interview ever. It's like a Greatest Hits of Asshattery all collected into one convenient location. I especially love Goodkind describing the choice about whether to jump in a river to save someone from drowning is an 'esoteric philosophical question'. And his spectacularly ignorant views on terrorism and Islam are just incredible.
And I'm pretty sure the FBC is not a massive Goodkind fan (he wouldn't have linked Pat's and Min's blogs if he was). I wonder if he was just absolutely taking the piss?

Er, read FBC's review of confessor. He <3 Terry.
Quote
The beautiful marble corridors of the People's Palace. The labyrinthine passages of the Wizard's Keep, each full of tricks, traps, and endless knowledge. The trails winding through Hartland Woods, where a simple woods guide fell in love with the Mother Confessor. The sprawling camp of the Imperial Order, comprised of the unwashed, the mindless, the sadistic.
Some fantastic, some dangerous beyond comprehension, each of these locations and more have been crafted by renowned author Terry Goodkind. Literally an artist, Goodkind took brush to canvas long before he felt himself a storyteller worthy of telling a story that had brewed within his mind for decades. The Sword of Truth, his venerable fiction series, represents an artistic masterpiece, but one not created with a brush. Instead, Goodkind wielded the pen—or, perhaps more appropriately, the keyboard—in order to convey his story.
If one were to compare The Sword of Truth to a picture, one would see a circle consisting of names seamlessly woven together. Richard, Kahlan, Shota, Zedd, Adie, Victor, Nicci, Cara, Jennsen, Gratch, Denna, Jagang, Ann, Nathan, Chase, Rachel, Ulicia, Violet, Ben, Tom, Six.... The names twist around, with more and more added to the list until finally, the circle curves one last time, linking to its top, its point of origination.
With “Confessor”, the concluding installment of The Sword of Truth, Goodkind's character-driven adventure literally comes full circle. In Laymen's terms, the gang's all here, and “Confessor” is one wild, wild ride.
Like a Venn diagram, each Sword of Truth novel contains its own set of elements, but also links together to form a much larger picture. Goodkind's books have the refreshing quality of not only standing as part of a whole, but representing a whole in and of themselves. Each has its own storyline that is sufficiently concluded on the last page, giving readers enough to feel satisfied with their purchase, yet teasingly reminded that more is still to come.

Just skimmed that interview. Apparently people who read fast aren't actually reading. No, Tarry, I skim things like that interview. Though to be fair I'd probably skim his books to finish, seeing as I've never got through one reading properly.
That said, there are a few things he says that ring true, there. Notably when he's talking about the process of writing, rather than what he's writing about.

I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

"Terry Goodkind: Ayn Rand is the inventor of the objectivist philosophy. I consider her the greatest thinker since Aristotle."
"I'm an objectivist, and I have a lot of objectivist thinking through Richard [Rahl]."
These two things explain so much about why I hate Tarry. I can't stand Ayn Rand either. Both are horrible writers whose philosophy is retarded.
-Vengeance notes that Retarded is a scentific term used correctly..

Actually, it got cleared up. FBC isn't a fan but enlisted the help of someone who is to do the interview and review. That explains a lot.

I hate Goodkind, a guy who almost got me sent to prison is one of his biggest fans and loves to spout that 'Objectivist' point of view *ahemBullshitahem*
Eddings at least is something I wouldn't worry about seeing in a twelve year olds backpack. If I saw Goodkind in a young persons backpack, I'd have to kill them, or warn them of the evil chickens deadly pecks.

Eddings is one of the worst writers there is in literature. I hated especially the female characters. I only read the Tamuli, and I don't know how I managed to end that garbage.
It is because of authors like Eddings that people think that fantasy is a childish and unimportant genre. Thank God we have Erikson, Martin, Vance and Anderson.

Haven't read Goodkind but I have read someone significantly worse than Eddings: Sarah Douglass. (our best selling aussie fantasy author

Goodking vs Douglass. Hmmm. Tough one. The interesting thing is they both have these utterly incomprehensible sex scenes in them. Still, very few things beat Goodking. To all those who haven't read him, you must have a guardian angel.

Oh, come on Fluffy, you know the amount of hate Goodkind receives on these boards - this is nothing. In fact, it's probably an honour for Goodkind to be compared with Eddings.

I hate them both but cant cast a vote since i find Fiona Mcintosh to be much worse.
Yes i know it is scary thought, but there is writing worse than what those two makes.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
