Haha, thanks for clarifying Cause :p

Although GRRM's series doesn't have any known "systems", I like how magic is very discreet and in the background of the books.

I just wish I had materia slots in my weapons :D

What weapons?? :p

of course :p

which reminds me Piers Anthonies Kelvin of Rudd series had some interesting magic

also his Through the Ice book... now that just had some cool Ideas... (he actually just finished the book of a fan who died as a charity thing, but awesome book)

the group of heroes were each from different worlds/dimensions
You had a chic with psy powers...
a Satyr with magic powers (inlcluding a flute that could store and or replicate stuff it had stored),
a man with Super-man level strength
and a guy from our world, with knowledge of science...

guess who was outclassed to start with:D

Early Xanth novels also explored the idea of a land where every one had magic... I really liked the first 5 books too (until the series became a big punish cartoon)

HA! Pun intended? :rotfl:
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Some systems not yet mentioned are the ESP powers in the Darkover* books (the good ones MZB wrote before she hit it big with Mists of Avalon) and Katherine Kurtz' Deryni magic. What interests me in those is the impact they have on society: the development from the uncontrolled powers to circles that in the end become so restrictive they no longer work; or the problem of magic versus Church.

* Yeah, I know they're considered SciFi, but it's basically Fantasy in space, imho.

I'm also interested to see where Brian Ruckley, another so far unmentioned author, is taking his Shared (have read Winterbirth so far, and Bloodheir on my shelf).

I like different sorts of magic, including the worlds that have little of it, like GRRM or Guy Gavriel Kay.
