Yah, it's the animal. There's no ambiguity.

I used to think it like... 'Jewiker' (best approximation, english is not my first language and your spelling-to-pronounciation rules are... non-existent?).

But will now try to amend that to 'Do-i-care' :p I like the inherent ambiguity of it too, fits the character actually :p

I'm Dutch and to me it sounds like a Dutch name, well not actually not a Dutch name, but a Dutch word.
In Dutch, Duiker = Diver

So I typically always pronounce it in my head in Dutch :p

Well, when I first met the character, I read his name as I would in my own language: without any accent - Duiker - Dooi-Ker, where Ker is like Ker-mit.
For those who know a bit about spanish football (and I do mean soccer), Ker is like Iker in Iker Casillas.

Then I joined this community and when I saw someone was curious about the pronunciation, I said it aloud and it came out like this (in english): Dooikah.

The audiobook I was listening to pronounces it dye-ker and that's fine with me. The blurb on the Brilliance Audio site has a quote from Stephen Erikson saying it using the correct pronunciations although those could be for later books when they switched the narrator.

I've always read it as 'Dyoo-ker'.

Old thread so sorry for necro-ing it but I always pronounced Duiker, like do-ik-er, or do-iker, said fast, with iker prounced like iker casillas as an earlier poster mentioned.

As for Brys I always pronounced it breese, like putting a b in front of the name reese,

Old thread, but I'm Dutch as well and have always pronounced it like someone typed in this thread before:

I've been pronouncing it DYE-ker as well, and trying not to second guess myself every time he turns up. ;)

In Dutch it would be pronounced "DOW-ker", but I believe Erikson took the word from Afrikaans, so it's probably a bit different. I always read it with the Dutch pronunciation.

Edit: In Dutch, 'ui' says 'ow'; eg: 'uit' is pronounced almost the same as 'out' in English (and takes the same meaning).
