how does ui make an oy sound? suit, disguise, these words aren't pronounced close to oy. what led to this interpretation? I personally envision it falling between doo-e-ker and dweeker.

ui makes oy sounds in certain contexts and word arrangements, this is a vague example : luin is pronounced almost indistinctly to loyn or loin.

I always thought it was Jew-kur, and Brice.
Yeah, I always stutter the 'i' a bit at the end, not quite a dipthong, but not totally separate either.
and Brys = briss

i tested it out on my computer: opened up word, typed duiker, went to beginning of line and hit windows s. here is what it said: deweykur (dewey as in dewey decimal system, kur as in current). the dewey was pronounced quickly, almost soinded like doyker, but not quite,
and i thnik brys is briss, pronounced like the jewish ceremony.

In South Africa there's a small buck called a duiker. It's an afrikaans word and is pronounced Day-ker. That's the only way I've ever imagined it
According to all-knowing wikipedia:
A duiker (pronounced /ˈdaɪkɚ/) is any of about 19 small to medium-sized antelope species from the subfamily Cephalophinae native to Sub-Saharan Africa.

You're all wrong. Mostly.
It should be pronounced DWI-KER. Like the antelope.

I pronounce it in the dutch way that no other language can pronounce, the way we say ui. Kind of like oai when beathing out. I cant explain, you silly english cant do it at all.
But yeah I know thats wrong, I just prefer it, also duiker means diver in dutch, and lull basically means penis, made it a bit awkward tbh. PENIS says..

Well, I think Brys is pronounced "Brys". Because it's just "drys" with a B in front.

Not sure about Duiker though, I always think of it as "dooker" but I'm happy for someone to persuade me otherwise
