I have to add my voice to Apt's sarcasm.

Although one point comes into my mind, Kruppe's a genius. He knew that his friends would live. But then I have to ask why would he fool his friends, there seems to be no basis to that plan, unless it is a plan of incredible foresight.

I like the idea of the mule being connected to Burn at least, it seems a nice fit.
Kruppe seems like a man with some faith, maybe he just had faith in his friends and a good idea of their capabilites, he'd known them a while at that stage and they proved themselves to be no slouch, or maybe in his dreams he had seen them in a future, and suspected that they weren't yet meant to die.

Kruppe's mule is Burn.

I dubt that with the CG poisoning her Burn had the power to become a mule but it's still an interesting idea. My compliments to it!

The way I see it, it's a testament to just how capable Kruppe is. HOW he did it is anyone's guess, but I'm pretty sure he did it himself. Also Silverfox found the notion of Kruppe actually needing any help was unlikely.

I believe Kruppe indirectly refers to there being someone else protecting him...

I also believe the mule is possessed by K'rul. I have a feeling these mules are all much more than they seem.

I'll follow this up with some evidence later. Gotta write an English paper tonight... Blegh, I'd rather be reading.

Ah, what the heck, why not add my own random take on Kruppe...

1. The Queen of Dreams is referred to at least once as the Queen of Divination.
2. We don't know of the QoD's warren, nor have we ever seen any priests/priestesses/wizards of her.
3. Kruppe shows a ridiculous amount of foresight, consistently.
4. Much of Kruppe's significant involvement in matters comes by way of his dreams.

Thus I believe that Kruppe has, in addition to high intelligence, superb command of the QoD's warren. This is where the power of his dreams comes from, and since she is also tied to divination, this is how he knows so much in advance of things, hence why his timing is always so damn perfect. He foresaw Oponn's involvement, K'rul's return to power, the need for the Trygalle, etc. The only thing he didn't foresee was Lorn and Onos in the Gadrobi hills because otataral defeats his divination. In short bursts, his warren even shows him when to lash out an arm and catch a flying apple when no one is looking.
As for evading the effects of Brood's rage, he foresaw the consequences of continuing to bait Caladan, and knew precisely what combination of geography, physics and a bit of K'rul's protection would let him survive the ordeal...

If he was to be a middle mage who happens to be intelligent, why would Sorry fear him? And in a dream the Imas told him Kruppe could block new gods out of his dreams. Doenst strike me as a middle intelligent mage :-)

Sorry/Cot doesn't fear him. Kruppe is an unknown to sorry, but obviously involved in something big, therefore she/he's weary of the fat mans actions.

Keeping someone out of your head would seem like the easiest of tricks for a person with knowledge of Mocra. With what he does to one of his companions, whipping his memory, such a thing as a mental block should be easy even for a midling mage.

I will go ahead and acquiesce to Apt's classification of Kruppe as a middling mage but I would like to revive the idea of Kruppe filling some role as either a mortal shield, or destrains (sp) of Krul. He just seems to be too well connected to rely only on his own powers. There is also a bit of confusion on my part over the relationship that Kruppe has with the alchemist (forgot name) in Darujistan. It seems in text that Kruppe "works" for him but I cannot help but think it is the other way around. To quote Frank Hurbert, "I see plans within plans." I would think that he will become more exposed in future books ( i hope).

on the subject of Krul, since the young warrens are, for lack of a better term, his veins, wouldn't that give krul some sort of nominal power over the warrens that humans have access to? Not enough to directly access them, but enough to constrict or dilate them. If that were true then if Kruppe is a servant of Krul I could imagine that Kruppe would then have a bit of flex over many of the warrens. So then not Kruppe would not have a ton of power, just enough to nudge here or there, kinda like Oppon's luck. Thus Kruppe could still be the middling mage that some of us want and have a bit more power like others of us want.

At to the situation with Brood, i do not think that it was as impressive a feat for Kruppe as we were lead to believe. Apt pointed it out, the true power revealed by the hammer did not manifest itself right in front of Brood where Kruppe was standing but further away where the mountains started to build.

how is that for my first bizarre theory?

Lmao :D.The lower case letters where capitals should be would indicate caps lock had been left on inadvertantly.

Try and reformat it, it looks like drunken rambling. You question has already been discussed on the first pages.

I recon he's just a normal, not very powerfull mage, with an exceptional mind as his most dangerous asset. His avoidance of being crushed by brood was K'rulls doing I think.
