I think it was another case of a wrestler thinking he's a striker all of the sudden (see Evans, Rashad.) If he had focused on his strength I think he could have won that fight. That one takedown he got was a sweet, sweet shot. Some guys need to accept that they are not natural strikers.

Evans is fast as hell. His striking is pretty good, although short of elite at the moment. I don't see him being like Gurgel (the worst case of not playing to his strengths I've ever seen) or Sherk.

Plus Sherk was getting tagged everywhere by a constantly moving Edgar. I don't think there were more than three or four takedown opportunities for Sherk in that fight.

the Matt Hughes vs Matt Serra fight was a dissapointment... and to be honest i wanted hughes to win but i really dont think Serra diserved that loss, in my book that was a draw, especially with that take down at the end that serra got... I cant believed they gave all 3 rounds to hughes... oh well

Hughes was at least 20 pounds bigger than Serra. Apart from that headbutt, Hughes flat out dominated Serra. I'd have liked to see Serra come out and push the pace to an extreme level, but eh, he's done at 170 at least. Should move down to 155 or retire.

Good UFC PPV all in all, better then last months by far, but not as good as March's....

That McFedries-Professor X fight was nuts. All of the fights on this card went 1st round beatdown or decision. No inbetweenies as far as I can remember.

I heard the Nover fight was an absolute embarrassment as far as refereeing goes.

I try to use spoiler tags for the people who might not see it live, maybe they recorded it or are pirating it or something. I guess it doesn't really matter.

I can't believe I called that result. Should have tried to predict a specific round.
I'll try prognosticating the UFC 99 main event.

Catchweight (195 lb) bout: Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva
Franklin by unanimous decision.I don't think the UFC has enough tweeners to support a full 195 division just yet, but it might be possibility down the line.

Heavyweight bout: Cheick Kongo vs. Cain Velasquez
Velasquez by TKO, 2nd round.

Welterweight bout: Mike Swick vs. Ben Saunders
Swick by decision. Saunders is the guy who threw 49 knees into Wolff's head in that UFN.

Welterweight bout: Marcus Davis vs. Dan Hardy
Hardy by decision.

Lightweight bout: Spencer Fisher vs. Caol Uno
Uno beats the crap out of fisher, G'n'P 3rd round.

Heavyweight bout: Mostapha Al-turk vs. Mirko Filipović (This'll be on the main card, but I'm not sure which one from above will be bumped down. Maybe Swick.)
CC by decision. Al-Turk's not quite fast enough to counter the striking, but I don't think CC has the ridiculous KO power anymore.

Undercard is.... bleh to me.

I try to keep the attitude that names don't matter. Some of the best fights I've seen were on the undercard between guys I had never heard of. Of course, some of the worst have been there too.

Hughes lost the fight...his being a future MMA HoFer won him the fight. Serra hits like a truck and has shown more power in his pinky than Hughes his fist. Joe Rogan stated that principle several times prior to the fight. Rogan also said that a good right hook to the back of the head immediately after Whooes butted Serra helped KTF out of Whooes. If it was bad enough head butt to blame for Whooes almost losing he likely should have bled like a stuck hog. He didn't. Serra won rounds 1 & 3. Whooes got round 2 even though all he did was act like a BLANKET and lay on top of Serra. He hit like a girl and Serra looked like he was on vacation while on the bottom because the blows were not hurting him. Serra won 29 - 28.
The problem you run into with MMA is that most of the judges are Boxing judges that don't know crap about submissions. Serra was working them and being AGGRESSIVE with his attempts. Those are points. He worked several platas and tried for other subs constantly. Whooes won because of his name. He is washed up and will lose his next fights unless they too are handed to him. Look at the Taco Ortiz vs. Forest Griffin fight. Same thing happened there. Unfortunately many judges let that stuff sway them. Sick, but true.
Looking for books that hold a candle to the Malazan series or the Shanara series. PM me if you can recommend one. :)

Personally, I would have probably scored that last round a draw. Both had one takedown, Hughes had more time in control on top (which does score points) but Serra had several sub attempts. None of them were remotely close to putting Hughes in danger though. It was so close, I could see the argument for either guy to win that round.

The good news is Hughes is not retiring, so I may get to see him knocked out at least one more time. I'm running out of guys to root against, now that Tito and Timmy are gone. I guess there's always Frank Mir, but it's not the same. I've never been able to truly dislike him after he snapped Timmy's arm in half. Oh, and Diego sanchez and Brandon Vera. Screw those guys.

Lots of knowledgable people think Hughes won that fight, and maybe I dislike him too much to be objective, but I think Serra won too. Having top game shouldn't automatically give you points for control or aggression. Hughes didn't hurt Serra at all from top in half-guard. With that kind of logic you should get points for lousy kicks against the opponent's guard standing.

hell, even when Hughes had serra's back but was underneath, i thought the backfists Serra was throwing were doing more damage than the hits Hughes was getting in.

but still, never leave it to the judges remains a good maxim I think, and will do for a while.

and RLY, how about Junie Browning? just for the crap he pulled on the ultimate fighter its enough to make me
want to see him get flattened. yeah, the UFC's real serious. while they're pissing on each others food.

nice way to raise the profile there guys.

Oh yeah, forgot about Junie. He's not as fun to root against though, I almost feel bad for him he's such a trainwreck.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Pure ratings. And, I'll bite. I don't think he'll do well, but that will be fun to watch too. But hey, if he's improved enough to actually win the show (doubtful) more power to him.

How about the fact that Rampage Jackson is holding off on a title shot to fight Evans?

You think he is just scared to fight Machida or he really hates Evans that bad?

i'm sorry,

but Kimbo is a f***ing joke.

I pray to god that it's going to be one of those ultimate fighter's where they have double the actual number
of contestants at the start, and everyone fights on the first day.

And that Kimbo gets his ass handed to him.

As for Rampage, i think a little from column A, a little from column B.

I doubt that he's scared of Machida, I just don't think he's worked out a way to beat him.

Machida is probably going to have be taken down and ground and pounded to lose... which is going to be hard because he is still a BJJ black belt...so keeping him down or being effective on the ground will take some work... he just seems to hard to hit consistently to fall prey to a knock out... but then again, anyone can be knocked out...

i hope Shogun Rua gets beat up...and knocked out

Forrest Grifiin is going to fight Anderson" The Spider" Silva

Place your bets! Griffin is a 10 to 1 underdog

I hadn't heard about Kimbo, ratings will be at an all time high, IMO

This season of TUF will not have fights to get in the house. Obviously catering to Kimbo, but whatever. If he hasn't improved at all, he'll get booted quickly. If he has gotten better, then if he can win fights he deserves to be there.

Yeah, Forrest does have a habit of getting hit and then panicking, I doubt he can pull it off, of course, I didn't think he would be able to beat Jackson either, so.....
