Yup, I was thoroughly disapointed.

Never watched an MMA event before and saw Kimbo on 1st take on Thursday or Friday. Thought what the hell, its on CBS during the Ohio State V Wisconsin game I'll check it out.

Very enjoyable overall, especially liked the chick fight(can't for the life of me remember their names). Definatly something I would watch more of.

Very disgusted at the end though. I was really looking forward to Kimbo and Shamrock, then found out it wouldn't be Shamrock then watched Kimbo go down like he was fighting vintage Mike Tyson.

Quick question from a non MMA fan; Is Kimbo just overhyped? or was it a fluke?

Kimbo is waaaaaay overhyped. He's a street fighter with very little mma experience or even experience fighting anyone with any kind of combative training. His first few fights he's been fed some awful fighters just to build up his hype, and even Shamrock, who is 1-7 in his last 8 fights, was handpicked as someone Kimbo could beat. I knew as soon as the fight got switched to a legit (but not great) fighter that Kimbo was going down.

has anyone seen Brock Lesners fight, the last one where he used his immense speed and bulk to hold down his opponent for the duration. I'm glad he has proved himself, because the no risk fight we saw could have been more interesting if he had tried some daring stuff. Can't wait to see him again and I'm hoping he turns it up.

On another note, I hear the spider is moving up a weight division. IMO Anderson Silva is the best in the world, I was a skeptic until I saw him in action for the second time. He's got awesome skills, accuracy, strength and a killer instinct that no one can touch.

I missed the Kimbo fight...gutted, just couldn't keep it together to stay up all night to watch.

It already happened. He knocked James Irvin out lickety-split. Silva will be defending his middleweight title against Patrick Cote very soon on October 25th.

He refuses to stay at middleweight because his BFF Lyoto Machida is in that weight class. Silva has made numerous comments that the 205 title is Machida's for the taking and he'd never fight Machida. If Machida does indeed take the title (he may be good enough to do it), the UFC should throw crazy money at each to make that fight. Good gods, would that be awesome.

Lesnar's still pretty green. He has no idea what he's doing jits-wise and a good heavyweight (ie. Big Nog) would probably not turtle up for the duration of the match like Herring did.

See if you can find a replay of the punch Lesnar threw that leveled Herring. That was nigh upon unbelievable. Lesnar's about to fight Couture sometime late this year. I fully expect Couture to put a butt-whooping on him.

Wow the world has moved on in terms of my mma knowledge! Cheers for that amp, I'll try to find the spider fight online. Gotta love the UFC its got the 'Opera' of WWF(E) but retains that realism in terms of its fights. BFF...LoL

I'm almost tempted to agree with you with regards to Couture, but Brocks speed is immense, it looked like he was going to take the guy out in the first 5 seconds. If he trains the right way and improves there might be a surprise for all and sundry

I don't like penn, he's too (can I say this?) faggotty for my liking and I would love it if Dash takes him out and ruins him.

WOOOO! UFC Saturday night. Free on Spike in the States, you European types might have to pay for it since it's being held over there. Not a super card, no mindblowing fights, but solid top to bottom.

Yeah, Silva and Machida trained together for a long time. I don't really know why Silva won't fight him - I'd hop in the ring gladly with my training partners right now and they would with me - but that's apparently how it is.

Dash? I think you mean "Rush". I prefer the acronym GSP, but nicknames are funny things in sports.

And since when does a guy who can pretty much walk in off the street and beat the crap out of just about everyone at 155 and 170 become effeminate? He is a cheeky bastid at times, and of course, you can have your own personal preferences, but I don't think that's a legitimate reason to dislike BJ Penn.

I think GSP does beat him this time (I view the last one as kind of a deadlock with an advantage going to GSP for the takedowns) because no other champion else has improved as much as GSP has in the last two years.

On a related note: I was six inches from Matt Serra at the Pan-Ams in NYC. Dude is 5'6'' and looks like he's made of granite. And in the jiu-jitsu world, Rubens "Cobrinha" Charlees is a name to remember. I cannot believe how good he was and learned that he was at my gym two weeks before I signed up. Damnit.

Dash sounds cooler :p . You can be gay and still kick ass. I was watching this martial arts program a few years ago and there was this Ladyboy who was a Kickboxing champion, just reminds me of Penn and anyway he's got the initials B.J. in front of his name, so...

I'll look out for those names.

The UFC in the UK aired tonight on SpikeTV, was pretty good. A couple of "Yawn" matches, but still good free MMA. UFC 90 will be good, but UFC 91 is loaded, Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans and Wanderlia(sp?) Siva vs. Quinton Jackson. I look for Forrest to defend his title by decision.
THIS IS HOW I ROLL BITCHES!!!

Yeah, tonights fights were decent. i would have been annoyed if I had dropped cash on that for a ppv, but was well pleased by them as free fights. The worst 2 fights were the co-main events! The other three fights were fun though.

Yup, not exciting to the max, but good fare nevertheless. All mma is good as far as I'm concerned. And afterwards the hopkins fight was something to see. The geezers 43 and yet...Top sportsman.

You guys should watch the Hardy-Gono fight that wasn't televised. Very entertaining and ended in a split decision. Heck, I bet the entire building wanted them to go 5 rounds.

I've watched and re-watched so many Anderson Silva videos lately. The man doesn't beat people; he shatters them. Seriously, just about every opponent he has looks like they're about to die at least once in the fight - usually at the stoppage.

It looks like I've got an idol to try and match (yeah, we'll see about that). So pumped to see 90 this weekend.

yup watched it after a night on the town, anderson was going to town on the geeza and then the boys knee popped, Anderson still won, but...I dunno, the kid was tough, took a full on anderson knee to the face and carried on. Might have got interesting because anderson was doing some funky shit and dancing and allsorts.

Oh wow, that dos Santos uppercut was ridiculous.

Alves-Kos was good. Kos fought with heart, but Alves was just better and stuffed the takedowns.

I completely missed the Sherk-Griffin fight. Will catch that and the Franca and Leites fights online soon.

I thought Anderson was doing a combination of two things during the fight - entertaining the people and trying to throw Cote off his gameplan. Cote was doing better than Henderson in terms of strategy until that unlucky bounce. I'm pretty sure Silva would have wrecked him late in that round and finished him in the fourth, though. He just has a knack for doing unexpected things that work.

fair point, but I've not seen Anderson do that in the past and at some times it seemed like he was mocking the geeza which seems to go against his respectful attitude at all the other times. Kid was tough, but outclassed. I'm really starting to think that its time that he held both belts, he's good enough, and I think he eclipses the light heavies at the moment in terms of skill and firepower. Can't see forrest griffin posing much of a challenge...Vandelay if he reaches back to his past glories might pose a challenge, but nowadays who knows.
