If I'm reading this right, this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. They upped the top of the light heavyweight class to 225. On a good note, they now allow downward elbows to the head and have verified what exactly is the back of the head.

Yeah, those are unified rules, but the UFC isn't necessarily going to follow them.

A lot of states will go by these rules, I think. UFC will have to follow them if they want to keep having events around the country. It won't end up making that much of a difference though. All they have to do is use the new names of classes, but nothing says they have to use every weight class. There's already several they ignore, I don't expect that to change.

I like the new elbow strike rules. I think that making smothering a foul is a good idea. Dunno about the back of the head rules or the weight classes.

I like the back of the head rule. It's what it was always intended to me, it's really only recently they've been trying to enforce the headphone idea of back of the head, which is silly.

I can see the justification. It will be safer for fighters, as they won't have to cut as much to drop a weight class. There is too big of a gap between 205 and 265, I think there's a good reason to have a new class there. I didn't like the idea at first, but realized that much of my objection came from my inherent dislike of change.

the heavyweight division has been okay with it though. it will shuffle up traditional light heavyweight and shuffle up heavyweight. there arent very many big heavyweights in the ufc, at least ones that matter. the biggest names are the smaller heavyweights. arlovski, werdum, couture, vera, crocop are all successful smaller heavyweights no(obviously some arent ufc, but could fight in the ufc again without longterm contracts elsewhere)? rampage is a 205 that looks like he walks around at 240, so he may benefit, but until we see the griffin fight we dont know how dominant he'll be at 205.

Great fight. Once again Forrest pulls off the huge upset, one I did not think he would do. I thought for sure one of Rampage's bombs would eventually connect and end it, but Forrest has a hell of a chin. Of course, people are on the mma sites whining that it was a bad decision, but I think the judges got it right. Forrest clearly won that fight, Quinton even admitted it. Even before they announced the winner, their faces told everything. Forrest look cautiously hopeful, Rampage looked dejected like he was expecting bad news. Good fight, good decision. If Liddell beats Evans, I think he's next up for a title fight. I have to say, I think on paper he would be Forrest, but clearly Forrest doesn't read the paper. I don't think I will ever pick a fight against him again.

* Patrick Cote def. Ricardo Almeida via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Boring fight, really through no fault of either of them. Cote couldn't let loose with the hands because he was so afraid of being taken down, Almeida couldn't get going because he was afraid of getting knocked out. I had it 29-28 Cote. I want to see him fight a striker again in his next fight.

* Joe Stevenson def. Gleison Tibau via submission (guillotine choke) -- Round 2, 2:57
Great job by Joe Daddy pulling a submission out of his ass to take a fight he was losing. That Tibau guy is huge and scary.

* Josh Koscheck def. Chris Lylte via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 30-28)
Lytle has some huge balls to keep fighting through that cut, one of the worst I've seen in mma. One of the only fights I've seen where blood loss might have affected someone's ability to fight. Ugly, brutal, exciting. Smart of Koscheck to revert back to his strength and take it to the ground, since Lytle was beating him on the feet. Kos has some sick GnP, I was impressed by how he was able to somehow basically mount Lytle while still in half guard. How could one judge score it 30-28? It's impossible, to get a 28 you have to win at least one round, so how could Kos then have a 30? There's no ties in a round in a 10 point must system. Am I missing something, or is the judge? Anyways, Good fight, good decision.


* Tyson Griffin def. Marcus Aurelio via unanimous decision
Griffin is stout and strong. He really took it to him.

* Gabriel Gonzaga def. Justin McCully via submission (kimura) -- Round 1, 1:57
This one wasn't televised, so I didn't see it, but I'm glad to see McCully got subbed. I don't like that guy, I don't want to see him fight in the UFC anymore.

* Cole Miller def. Jorge Gurgel via submission (triangle choke) -- Round 3, 4:48
Didn't see it, I hear miller was losing before pulling off the sub at the end of the fight. How do you tap from a choke 12 seconds before the end of a fight you're winning? Don't tap, maybe the round will end, worse that happens is you get choked out. I could understand if it was an armbar where you would get broken if you don't tap, but a choke? And yes, before you ask, I havein fact been choked out before myself and know what it feels like.

* Melvin Guillard def. Dennis Siver via KO (punches) -- Round 1, 0:36
I don't like Guillard, I don't like him being back in the UFC. Tough fighter, hard to say if he's chemically enhanced or not at this point, and he's one of the most cocky arrogant assholes in the game. I don't even enjoy hating him like I do Tito, I just hate him and it's not ven fun to do so. I hope BJ Penn breaks his arm off and beats him with it.

* Justin Buchholz def. Corey Hill via submission (rear naked choke) -- Round 2, 3:57
Untelevised, I guess Hill was winning before he got choked though. Still a lot of potential in that guy, and I like him as a person. Hope he keeps at it.

i havent seen it, but ive seen the breakdowns of the scorecards and my brother broke down the fight for me... sounds fair, not to mention that fights definitely look different ringside compared to ppv with 24 camera angles
