I didn't watch it, but just looked up the results. Out of the 3 big fights, they all went the way I wanted them to. Sweet. What's all this about blood licking? I hadn't heard about it.

Re: UFC 84 (I think? the last one anyway)

Wandy vs. Jardine - well, that was pretty random wasn't it? Quick KO for the guy I wanted - good, but not great. Hopefully Wandy has found some kind of rhythm/groove/whatever because Jardine is always going to be that crafty, unorthodox striker with a glass chin - gatekeeper until he can't even do that effectively. Plus the crafty bit seems to come directly from Greg Jackson so...I like him but he has no real future in the sport. Wandy's on his way out but it could be he has some entertaining bouts left in him. Maybe fight Chuck again, or Rampage at some point if things go his way - or, he's already hinted at dropping down to 185 - who wouldn't pay to watch the battle of the Silva's - Anderson v. Wandy?! Jardine is just too random and weird - he could get away with it if he was a really fearsome dude but he...leg-kicked Chuck to death - fair enough but what are you going to do with someone who can defend the leg kick? overly-strategized fights kinda irritate me.

That being said, I appreciate Machida's win over Tito. It may be that I've hurdled an important MMA barrier. The fact is that if the guy can't catch you and you can poke at him all night and go for the killing blow if and when the opportunity presents itself, why not do that? I figured there was no way Machida could avoid being taken down by Tito, but he did just that - and that's impressive all by itself - sure it was boring by conventional standards but I was continually amazed that he was able to do it for as long as he did - incredible. Tito needs to take you down and pound you out - take that away and what has he got? Machida exposed him and I don't hate on Tito but he got schooled. He just doesn't belong in the top 10 anymore.

Penn v. Sherk - strange at the paucity of takedown attempts by Sherk, really very strange. Everyone knows BJ has heavy hands and will punish you in the standup. GSP has great standup and BJ turned his face into hamburger. Sherk's only chance was to take BJ down. He had to have been waiting for the later rounds, counting on his ability to last the first three - that's just plain fear. BJ v. GSP 2 must and will happen within the next 18 moinths (at 170), mark my words :o

I don't have the time or interest to comment on the rest of the matches. Cheers :p

I liked the technical mastery of both BJ and Machida. Sure, raw power and fighting spririt can be impressive and some sluggers are fun to watch but what I like most about MMA is the tactical depth you can get. BJ and Machida picked their opponents apart with very little damage taken.

BJ vs GSP is the MMA equivalent of Toll the Hounds for me now ...

dunno about that, personally i was hoping either GSP would go up or (anderson) Silva come down. That'd make for a damn good fight too.

Having said that, BJ has expressed the willingness to go up a class to fight GSP, so thats pretty much going to happen.
meh. Link was dead :(

Trouble is though one fighter would arguably be at a disadvantage by going up or down a class, fighters rarely carry their power proportionately when they change a class.

Would be a class fight though if possible, maybe a special halfway match would be cool, no title, kind of like a 150m race between the 100m and 200m champions.

AKA a catch-weight match. It's the best option really for having two champions fight, that way UFC won't lose a marketable champ because the belt's not on the line.

Who's watching the Elitexc fights tomorrow? I hope to catch the Kimbo fight. It's a gimmick, and everything that's wrong with MMA, but I love to watch the man punch people.

You forgot Carano? She never makes weight, but lordy is she hot.

WEC on Sunday is putting on Faber vs. Pulver. That should be an effing war. I'm calling Faber in 3 rounds.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

She came in almost 5 pounds over! This is not a good way to get people to take women's mma seriously, if the arguably most famous fighter can't come close to making weight. WEC looks good, I'm not sure who is fighting besides Pulver/Faber, but that fight alone has me excited. I call Faber as well, but give Pulver a decent puncher's chance to take the upset.

I am now taking bets on the Forrest Griffin v. Rampage Jackson fight

2 to 1 on Forrest

I believe he(Forrsest) will win the title
But of course, I might be wrong.

Any who get it right will recieve reppage from me.

That's a tough call. Forrest is probably the technically better fighter, Rampage is damn strong, tough, and scary though, and he shit-canned Chuck Liddell. I guess my money would go to Forrest, but I'm not confident in that prediction.

I think what gives Forrest the upper hand is the fact that he can take quite a bit of punishment, barring the Keith Jardine fight, and may weather the Rampage storm, mount and finish the fight on the ground. Either way, Its should be on hell of a battle.

I'm certainly looking forward to it. I wish they would stop having champs coach TUF. It keeps them from fighting for almost a year. I understadn why they do it, it's good marketing, but bad for the champs, the sport, and the UFC in general.

Forrest is impressive, he downplays himself: "then I went home and ate cookies but my friends and family they said, Forrest you're not good at anything other than fighting, so I went back and trained" (or something like that after the Shogun fight, referring to his former loss) but you get the feeling he can never be counted out. Don't know if it will be enough against Rampage.

GRRRR! My friend, who's wife I have complained about in other threads, and I were gongi to watch the Kimbo fight tonight at his house, so us and our wives could all hang out and have a good time. We didn't want to watch the whole show, just the last five minutes to see Kimbo KO someone. She has decided that won't happen, because violence makes her ill.

I can understand if she doesn't want to watch it. But shit, she could go outside and smoke a cigarette in the time that fight will take. Or, we could go in the other room and watch it. No, it will make her ill if it is on at her house at any point, regardless of if she's in the house or room at all.

So, if I want to watch the fight, I have to be the guy to ruin the whole evening for everyone. We stay home, my wife has to watch fights all night instead of seeing other people. I don't want to be that guy, so once again, I give up what I want for the good of the group. We'll go, hang out, and I'll miss the fights.

I think this is where you disguise the reason for sneaking into the other room by getting heavy on your lady all night. If you can either finish things up a little early or time the sneak right, you could catch that match.

Ha! Yeah, that would go over well. "Um, me and the wife are going into your bedroom to get it on. We'll be back after three 5 minute rounds, or until someone gets knocked out!"
