If Cruz doesn't get many more gigs, it's either he doesn't want to or Cormier's got his foot in the door first and has already built an evident friendship with Rogan, who presumably does get some say. Not because of audiences.

You really think the UFC doesn't take into account an audiences' reception to the announcing team? That's probably the dumbest thing I've read in this thread, and believe me, there's been a lot of dumb things said here.

You really shouldn't take part of my post out of context so you can call it dumb. It's not a good look. I said that the audience reception hasn't been negative, that I've seen (in fact it's mostly been pretty positive so far as people have talked about it), so if Cruz doesn't get the gig that's not the reason.

Lomachenko is the fucking bomb, by the way. Look up his last three wins, against Sosa, Walters and Martinez. Better performances against better opponents, especially Walters and Sosa.

This is slightly interesting: footage of a controversial McGregor "knockdown" against Malignaggi in sparring---controversial because Malignaggi says it was an illegal push. Here's the video:

https://www.bloodyel...-mma-mayweather

Looks like a gray area to me---like McGregor does a sort of push-punch with one hand (leaving the fist on his head, then push-punching) while hitting with the other. But it could be seen as a push or perhaps even holding and hitting. Referees have been lenient about this sort of thing in the past, though McGregor might be given extra scrutiny... and the "no MMA techniques" clause in the contract apparently only applies to things like kicks, elbows, and takedowns:

By pure coincidence, I'll be in Vegas the weekend of the Mayweather-McGregor fight, and free to do whatever I want at night. The fight's actually in neighboring Paradise, Nevada and I have no interest in being there live, but I've never afaik been in the proximity of a major live event, much less in Las Vegas. Thinking I should figure out where drunk fans congregate and see what happens... didn't plan on watching live at all but might as well pop into a sports bar around fight time. Maybe I'll take some video.

If I really feel like being terrible I might use one of my (pretty good) Irish accents, apply a temporary chest tattoo l found that looks a lot like McGregor's, and claim to be from Tipperary (well, my great-great-(-great?-or-something-)grandfather was, supposedly... or thereabouts).

Daniel Cormier should tell Dana White and the UFC to go kick rocks. And you damn well know they were aware of this prior to the fight.

Jon Jones fails drug test related to UFC title win over Daniel Cormier

I've an idea. Let Jones fight Lesner with no testing, Let them both come in juiced to the eyeballs. That would be worth the "are you not entertained!" cry from the Gladiator pit.

Why would they be? Per the article, the sample was collected after the weigh-in- there's no way they got the results back before the fight started.

Meh, I just think they are aware of these things prior. I think the optics of collecting the samples after the weigh-in is just to cover their asses. I could be a conspiracy theorist on this though. Chael Sonnen on ESPN said he could tell Jones was dirty. Not sure if Sonnen's opinion is taken seriously by a lot of people though. In any event, I just feel they know. Just imagine if they had to cancel yet another Jones v. Cormier fight yet again. Not a good look for the UFC.

I assume pretty much everyone is on something. The eye test is mostly horseshit though and Chael is a primo horseshit seller.

Jones probably has been on steroids off and on for a while - but not the one he got caught for. That probably came from some bad supplements he took.

I think you are in this particular instance. I have no love at all for the way the UFC brass and Dana go about things, but they have no history whatsoever of holding these things back to preserve a fight, and in any case I'm pretty sure the decision is USADA's and not the UFC's.

meh. They (Dana White and UFC brass) probably know though. It's just a gut feeling I have and sometimes you have to go with your gut. Know what I'm sayin?

A company that just recently sold for billions of dollars really has a lot to lose when marquee fights are threatened by PEDs. So yeah, they probably know. Let the fight go on. Collect all the revenue from the pay per view sales and then come out a month or so later, playing ignorant with the:

"oh snap! Jones was on something?" Oh gosh and by golly, we didn't know and are so disappointed. This will probably ruin Jones' career. Just so disappointed in him" . . . yadda yadda yadda.

Give me a break.

Much like Mark Hunt was pissed about Lesner, DC should be pissed as hell too. I've some advice for him, go to Bellator.

Seriously? The way Bellator is run makes the UFC look like saints. The only reason fighters should want to move to Bellator is that they're not locked into the criminal Reebok deal and can get their own sponsors if they want. Otherwise, Bellator does everything the UFC does wrong, but moreso.

Naw. Bellator respects the fighters more. DC should go. If for nothing else other then to piss off Dana and the UFC.

Man, I sure do miss all the sponsor posters a fighther's corner would hold up behind them prior to the fight beginning. I use to google them to see what they were about. "Venum? What do they sell". "I think I'll google them". "Muscle Milk?" "What the hell is that, and can it help me?" "A googling I go". lol.

Did anyone watch Fight Night Rotterdam last night? Some real good fights and prospects on there. These cards often seem to end up more fun than the big events and with far better pacing to boot, and since they're also way more likely to be in a European timezone that I can watch without having to be up at four in the morning, I love them.

Particularly worth looking up are the fights involving Till, Magomedsharipov and Taisumov, and the main event was fun too.

Escorting my elderly father through the chaos of the casino floor the day before the Mayweather-McGregor bout, I was explaining the fight analysis to him a bit, as he was considering betting on Mayweather, but hadn't followed combat sports since Tyson bit off (bits of) Holyfield's ear-lobes. Some random portly guy said to us, "Talking about the fight? I put $500 on McGregor." My father, in a loud voice, responded: "McGregor can't win! McGregor's a joke. It's pure hubris. McGregor is shit!" Me: "Oh, he doesn't know what he's talking about." My father (totally sober) starts singing, in a childish teasing tone, "McGregor can't wi-in! McGregor can't wii-in!" and doing a ridiculous dance in the middle of the casino. I pulled him away as fast as I could. We did agree that the guy looked too chubby to catch us if we had to run... but there were lots of other people around.

looking at UFC 217

that is a STACKED card.

reminds me of the old sub 100 days in that there's 3/4 fights that I'm interested in and couldn't definitely pick a winner beforehand.

Very much looking forward to that one.
meh. Link was dead :(

UFC 216

Didn't watch it, but just saw the highlight of Demetrious Johnson's finish over Ray Borg. That may have been the most bonkers finish I've seen. He tossed Borg in the air and caught him in an armbar as he was plummeting to the mat. Damn, that takes some serious fast twitch reaction, not only physically, but also mentally to pull something like that off. Shew weeeee!

He's basically a real-life Seguleh.

I saw it put elsewhere, if two pro wrestlers co-operated and practiced for weeks to use that as a finisher they still nine times out of ten wouldn't be able to pull it off as smoothly as Mighty Mouse just did on someone who didn't want him to.

Indeed it was. Up there with one of the best UFC events ever.

Three belts changing hands.

Favorite of the night was Rose Namajunas' stunning knockout of Joanna Jedrzejczyk. I've no doubt that Jedrzejczyk will get the belt back, but she reached a level of arrogance as champion that a delicious slice of humble pie was in order. And Namajunas served up that slice with a spot on left hook.

And boy, Bisping has no cell in his body that says quit. Dude is scary in that respect. I've no doubt that if that fight was against someone else other then St-Pierre he would have got up and continued fighting, but St-Pierre is so smart. As he stated in the after fight interview with Rogan, he set the trap and gave Bisping enough space to perfectly set up that rear naked choke.

Oh and guys, keep your eye on Paulo Costa. Dude is a friggan beast!

You have covered the big points. I think Gadelha by giving away her last fight to an unexpectedly tough Andrade lost her best chance to be champion. Rose has huge power, but she can be out matched on the ground, which is Claudia's best area.

Rose figured out how to trick Joanna with her punch set ups. Beautiful stuff.

GSP managing to crunch up Bisping's legs and hips to elbow him a ton was really hard to do and really effective once he got the drop.

The choke itself was terrific.

Think Cruz gets the belt back from TJ?

I think Cruz will get the belt back if given the opportunity. Dillashaw was calling out Demetrious Johnson after the fight. Not sure how they would do that. A catchweight bout or Dillashaw would cut weight down to flyweight class?
