Silch didn't want to fight - he recognized Trull from when they met in MT (Silch was doing his stuck-in-an-azath-dream-wandering thing, Trull was standing vigil on the dead edur). Clip killed Fear and Trull saw it over Silch's shoulder and everything went to hell from there. By the time Kilava showed up, Silch had already put a knife thru Kettle, but Kilava couldn't have known whether the fight was over and Onrack and their son were still at risk from Silchas.

Ultimately, it says a lot that Kilava had to at least know, if not who he was, that Silchas was tremendously powerful, and she was still willing to throw down, even if it was just in a defend-her-family-whatever-the-cost sort of way.

It's quite amazing that after a few hundred thou years apart, her and Onrack just picked up where they left off. There's nothing like a few millenia of separation to make the heart grow fonder.

i dont think we should read to much into kilvas threat to Silchas and his lack of action cause after quite some time in a hole in the ground he is nowere near his full power.

He did not seem up to full power( if it was, he's not much of a bad ass) When he fought Trul or Quick&company.

We all know that Silchas is very touchy and I think after Kilava threatened him like that he would have killed her, had he been able to.

Silchas? Touchy? Quite the opposite I think. Cold and calculating. He's at least as capable as Rake is of walking away from a provocation.

Hmmm...these debates about power always seem to assume that there is some kind of linear scale of power on which each character can be judged (anyone who frequents Jordan forums like Dragonmount will know this is a near obsession for some fans), just like a physical fighter they will all have different skills and different strengths and weakness. Clearly Kalava is very powerful and will have a variety of skills at her disposal and a great deal of experience, the same is true for Ruin.

Furthermore, impressive displays of offensive magic may not be that difficult where as seemingly small things may require an enormous amount of power and skill, we don't know.

Finally you can always be caught off your guard and there is nothing to say that a sorceror immediately knows exactly how powerful an opponent is, just like looking at an opponent in real life. You wouldn't have thought Bruce Lee or Floyd Mayweather could kick your ass at a glance since they aren't that big but you'd be wrong. Ruin may have looked at Kilava seen her confidence and just thought "well everyone knows who I am cos I'm a 7ft tall albino Tiste Andii and still she's having a pop! She's either 9 inch nails or stupid as hell, and here I am already a bit tired and I don't fancy risking it against a Bonecaster, bugger it, I leave it.

I reckon Silchas was in for a beating there... He doesnt seem to be quite as all powerful as we were lead to believe in MT, whereas Kilava seems to have rather a lot of potential badassness, which she hasnt used fully yet. And in SE's world, its the ones who hide their power who are most scary. I wouldnt say Kilava would be able to kill Silchas, but shed give him the beating of a lifetime.

I think it was prudence that stayed ruin's hand. kilava is an ancient mortal bonecaster aka wicked powerful....we hope, while old white boy has been stuck in an azath house growing weaker and expending energy destroying everyone that had it in for him in said house. So it was a stalemate...kilava an relative unknown and ruin an recovering ascendant.

I wont take the whole keep destroying as a return to power for ruin human are after all shoddy builders
