Im seriosly considering tarring Erikosn with the same brush (there i sed it. Neg rep away). The first 5 are the best books i have ever read although thats not much to go off many other have sed the same. Therefore he must be judged by such standards and IMO i feel that BH , fair enough a loose ends books, and RG werent up to standard. Which is a shame. Maybe it simply because of the build up. But the RG isnt nearly as active as the BH pre release. I think its because the sae questions remain unanswered.
I no off topic but i had to say it

Ok tiam, I'll give you the fact that I didn't enjoy BH and RG as much as the previous ones. But until SE totally loses the ability to end plotlines and takes five plus years between books I'll continue to rank him above Jordan.
Also, this seems to be a problem with all authors working on long series. Martin is going the same way.

well, I finished the first book. I have to admit, in spite of the cliches and "borrowing" from other authors, in the end I enjoyed it. NOt groundbreaking or earthshattering, but entertaining enough, I suppose. Good enough to keep reading. If it starts to suck really badly, I can always quit.

The second, third and fourth books are so much better. To my mind the first book can be safely ignored.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Well, I guess I actually have something to look forward to, until about book 6 at least. Now I just need to find a used book store around here.

Since when has Jordan taken 5 years to write a book? Me thinks you are confusing him with Martin.
RJ's first 5 or 6 were one year apart and the rest have been around 2 years.

Apart from KoD (3 years) and AMoL (4 years), although granted he does have a helluva excuse for slowing down.

QFT. Books 4 and 6 are probably the best in the series. I used to not be so keen on 5 because of:

I thought the last book rescued the series a bit. He still has left far too much to happen in the last book and im sure he will annoy the hell out of a lot of people leaving stuff unfinished.
June 2008 i heard for the last book. WHAT!

Well he has been seriously Ill and still is, as for someone saying he copied authors I think you find they copied him.
Sword of Truth series ...read that after reading Jordan and see the similarites.
I loved WOT 1-6, 7-8-9 were just painful but had to read them as I need to know.
Best thing Jordan could do is kill all the women in the book ..apart from Min who is a right hussy !

I quite like Aviendha. She sounds feisty! A Magician in bed? Or Pug Ugly?
Christ i cant stop these puns lately.
I do know what you mean though chap. There is always a lot of sniffing going on. I think Jordan asks his wife for help with the whole female / male relationship thing. They convey it well but the characters are a little annoying sometimes.

The official release date is 'Spring 2009'. However, thanks to some improvement in RJ's health and the fact he wants to get the prologue online somewhere before Christmas, it's been speculated that this could be brought forwards to mid-late 2008.

And, sadly, I'm sure pretty much everyone who has read most of the others will read the last book.
I'm guessing around 1.5k pages and a weight belt to be able to hold it up, and he will still leave mounds of things unfinished. Or he will literally raze most of the known world so he dosen't have to finish storylines.

WoT is a good starter series...take a lil bit of time to dig in but when it does your hooked. Unfortunately, you read Erickson first. This means your pretty much gonna hate it because you'll always compare it to greater works.

You know, all of the coplaints I had stil stand, but I'm in book 3 now and must admit I'm hooked. Not the greatest ever, but an entertaining read. I imagine I'll finish out the series, unless the bad stretch of books is too much to bear. The more I read, the more of a rip-off artist I realize Terry Goodkind is. Serously, Jordan "borrowed" heavily from several authors. (Tolkein, Donaldson, Herbert, to name a few.) Goodkind, however, just flat-out stole things from Jordan, to the point that Jordan should sue Goodkind.
