Hmm, I've liked a great number of characters, but as far as unmixed delight, pure "oh God he/she is SO COOL!" factor goes, I'd say these ones make the cut... Posted Image

Dream of the Endless ("Sandman", Neil Gaiman)
John Constantine ("Hellblazer", various)
Terisa Morgan ("Mordant's Need", Stephen Donaldson)
Roland of Gilead ("The Dark Tower", Stephen King)

And a special mention to Tyrion "the Imp" Lannister ("A Song of Ice and Fire", George R R Martin)

Dude... thats a lot of characters... I always liked Aragorn in the books of LOTR... The films did him OK, but in the books he was a lot better!

woo, Gothos, I am so happy that I am not along here with Sapkowski and Ziemiński. Regards from magical Krakow.
If I can add more from the latest Polish fantasy:

Hieronimus Berbelek from Dukaj's "Other Songs"
Humphray Adams from Huberath's "The City Under the Rock"

I just hope it'll be translated for our English friends

These two books ROCKS!!

Yep, there are a lot. And I've probably missed out a lot there as well. But Erikson's characters are all so good, it is hard to leave any of them out.

Has to be Roland.
Didn't always like the DT (especially the end) and King's style of writing but Roland.. truly magnificent character.

Characters that have really 'gripped' me, rather than characters i really 'like'- in no specific order

Itkovian

Roland (Dark Tower)

Calahan (Dark Tower)

Thomas Covenant

Most of the main characters from Donaldsons GAP series

Other authors ive read have good characters but ones that i havent cared about as much as those above and so were never missed when the story ended
