Hmm, I've liked a great number of characters, but as far as unmixed delight, pure "oh God he/she is SO COOL!" factor goes, I'd say these ones make the cut... 
Dream of the Endless ("Sandman", Neil Gaiman)
John Constantine ("Hellblazer", various)
Terisa Morgan ("Mordant's Need", Stephen Donaldson)
Roland of Gilead ("The Dark Tower", Stephen King)
And a special mention to Tyrion "the Imp" Lannister ("A Song of Ice and Fire", George R R Martin)

Dude... thats a lot of characters... I always liked Aragorn in the books of LOTR... The films did him OK, but in the books he was a lot better!
