Only 150 pages into Erikson, so hopefully I'll get some new favorites.

Jaime Lannister (love to hate)
Cara the Mordsith (Not a big Goodkind fan, but like the whole Mordsith concept).

And trying to add some I hadn't seen on the thread:

RA Salvatore is kind of a young-adult writer, but I always thought Jaraxle and Artemis Entreri were brilliant characters.

Has anyone read Stackpole's "Dragoncrown War Cycle?" I think Resolute the Vorquelf is my favorite character in fantasy.

I forgot one character that I needed to add, making my list 6 characters long. Dream from the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman is one of the greatest characters I've read. I know that many will say that he doesn't count because it is a comic, but for anyone who has read it, I believe that they would agree with me. For anyone who has not read the comics, buy or borrow the trade paperbacks. It is a bit expensive for all of them, but well worth the cost.

Uther Doul- Token badass.

Tyrion Lannister.

Mark Vorkosigan (and all his other personalities).

Waylander (he was after all in the first fantasy book I read after LotR).

The tribesaman from the Prince of Nothing (What's his name?)

Fitzchivalry Farseer.

The poet-soldier from the Lions of Al-Rassan. Can't remeber his naem either.

Patera Silk.

I really should think of a token woman to put in...

Hah! Got two:

Ash and the White Raven both from Mary Gentle books. In fact all her charcters are rather good if rarely sympathetic. Oh, and Casuabon, the grossly obese lover of the latter.
