Hood

got two questions here regarding Hood... oh, second thought, three!
1. What does Hood owe Quick? when QB said something about Hood owing him in the arena.
2. Hood personally attended to the deaths of two people in RG, and complained about it. I've never quite understood why he did that. Sure, those people (like some deaths earlier that got the same reception) did some extraordinary things and were all heroes in their own right, but why did Hood greet them?? could it mean Hood actually have a good side to him? man... I was annoyed that Hood didn't stay around for the final and most important death in the entire book!! that's not fair, just because the dead guy isn't Malazan?
3. So whose side is Hood on? reckon he might be a good guy after all?

They had that chat in MoI, which got QB the services of Talamandas. But I can't remember the resolution of that deal, or really what it was about. Way too long since I read that book.

Hood pays respect to those who die with honour. Recall that he did the same for Brukhalian and Rellock.
If you are talking about Trull - I think the question of what happens to dead Tiste Edur (all Tiste in fact) has been deliberately sidestepped. I think there could be some potential future storyline value to explaining what happens to dead Tiste. There are no Edur ghosts seen in Lether, and no hints that dead Andii or Edur go to Hood.

I reckon he's on the side of the people who are against the CG. Hard to be specific. Might be better to say he's on the side that will preserve the status quo.
Anyone else think that QB made sure the soul of Sirryn got the advocate treatment from Hood?

1. i assume this has to do with quick taking on the crippled god and the pannion
2. it was a tuesday, everyoone knows tuesdays are bingo days in hoods realm and the big man had an hour to kill before it started.
or it might have been that toc the elder was a sworn follower of hoods int he first sword of dassem ultor who was knight of death. therefore toc was pledged to hood as a baby by his father (or so says hood). The BH carry death with them and the rituals they perform(binding body parts to their persons of fallen enemies) draws deaths warren about them. Beak then performed the ultimate sacrifice to save the BH marines and hood greeted him for that sacrifice.
3. his own??

Hood is... death. I don't think he's on anyone's side. Of course, he was hanging out with Shadowthrone, but then, he only plays his own games too...

interesting. I never suspected the Tiste dead don't go to Hood... how can they not?

yeah, I got the vague feeling that he's opposed to CG too. Now that really bugs me on what his deal with Paran is about.
yep, QB sent the Letherii to Hood. *shudder* - or be grabbed by QB and told 'not to pity him'!

All those ghosts they use are spirits of ruin's people they slaughtered. So, where ARE the Edur ghosts?

He is opposed to anything changing the way the gods are. Remeber he 'hit back hard and cleared a space' regarding the poison of the warrens according to QB in... MoI?

QB didn't send the Letherii to hood. He told hood to give him the space reserved for advocates. He grabbed Fiddler, and told him not to pity him (the guy who stabbed trull in the back just because he could)

@blewin - The souls of certain worshippers of gods go to their gods upon death, like Heboric's or Toc's were going to, just that Hood's worshippers get the good seats, I assume. The Edur are at the Throne of Shadow, MD or suggestions, people?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Think about the Jaghut underworld - their souls don't even go there, because the Jaghut didn't believe in souls! But if they had, the souls would have gone there, not to Hood.
Which is somewhat bizarre, considering it's fairly accepted that Hood is a Jaghut himself.

There's no comment anywhere that I can think of for what happens to dead Tiste. Certainly no hint that they go to Hood, which would be the default. I just think it's suspicious that there's been no comment on it.

Oh, he's deadset against the CG. But that doesn't mean he's best buddies with all the other characters who are in the same boat. That's why I said it was hard to be specific - because it's not as simple as "CG" and "anti-CG" forces.

errr isn;t the souls of the dead edur ties to their trees,.. if you recall what happened in the earlier books.. there was described the ceremony where a dead edur was buried and there they talk about how they tie the soul of the edur to the wood
