[QUOTE=james9700;180535]Ok, most of my confusion gets cleared up by reading this forum or re-reading the books. BUT..the one thing I haven't gotten in the Bonehunters is Apsalar. First, why did she have to kill the people on Shadowthrone's list, wasn't she freed at the end of GOTM? Or did she make some implied deal with Cotillion having to do with Crokus in Midnight Tides?

The deal was that she would do all Cotillions dirty work for him if he left Crokus alone. She didnt want him to die.

Now the list is clear and with her work and the Azlan demons released in House of Chains doing their jobs im sure the Empire has been er .... Cleansed?

Should of just used one of those Flash wipes. The ones with the rough bit on one side. Smell awful but good at scrubbing.

I digress........... bless!
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

With Apsalar there is one question I ask rather often when I read this series - how powerful she really is? As Aptorian pointed, Hounds are extremely powerful, and we have clues for this in many books. Yet she could not only stop them, but also kicked them and hurt them. Not to mention, that she killed more than 300 assasin in Malaz, and finished Pearl like he was a little baby. So she is probably ascendand, and her powers don't come only from shadow dance - we read from Lostara words that there were more shadow dancers when she was in the temple, so there should have been more powerful assasins like Apsalar.
And with this conversation between Cottillion and ST - when Cot. enetered the scene he was all in dust and very tired (I cant write the exact words cause I only read translation) like it was he himself who was fighting Hounds?
And one last thing. In BH Kalam is said to be nearly as powerful as Apsalar. How can it be - we know that he is a normal person with no magical powers. He's very strong, skilled and dangerous, but how can he be considered one of the most deadly assasins if he doesn't posses magic?

How powerful? Very.
Re: Kalam. -He has nearly ascended he's suck a badass. Also, as a member of the claw, I imagine he does have some magic.

As for the Kalam - for sure in some places in the books it was said he has no magick powers except QB to back him up. Although in TBH Tavore says that it looks as Kalam moves faster than other assasins, and he replies that in his mind everything just slows down. So maybe he do posses some kind of extra powers?

Those shadow dancers were trained as dancers, not as assasins. They had forgotten what shadowdancing was really for. I wonder where Cotillion learned it.

I thought the bullet time ( :D ) thing was more a function of Kalam's training and innate badassedness than anything magical.

As for Cotillion, as Dancer he was an assassin, and

That being said, we don't actually know that Cotillion does in fact have 'shadow-dancing' the way Apsalar does. It seems likely that whatever abilities she obtained from Cotillion, she evolved/ascended into a new skill set. They may have been the same once, but not as of the end of TB.

- Abyss, prefers belly-dancing.

It seems pretty clear that Dancer was an assassin who used shadow dancing. Hence the name, Dancer.

Did anyone else think Dancer was a female when they first read GotM? I was a bit surprised when it turned out "Dancer, companion to the Emperor" was a male.

So we can assume, that Apsalar learnt Shadow Dance for an assasination use from the memories of Cottillion but probably brought it to higher level. But what powers does it give to her? That she can walk in shadows, be extra fast and probably super extra strong. Well not too bad, who wants to learn some shadow dancing? :D

When Pearl sees that someone's been shadow dancing through the Claw, he thinks that Cotillion's after him. So Pearl, at least, seems to believe that Cotillion is a shadow dancer.
