Hmm, I had thought there was already a thread about this. Anyways, I recently reviewed ?Acacia? by David Anthony Durham, and I have to say it?s probably the best new fantasy that I?ve read in a long time. Technically, David is not a new author, but ?Acacia? is his first foray in a fully realized fantasy setting, and as such, I loved reading it more than Patrick Rothfuss? ?The Name of the Wind? or Scott Lynch?s ?Lies of Locke Lamora?. I know that my opinion may not have much merit yet, but I really think ?Acacia? is the start to something special, and while it does have its flaws, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new epic fantasy to delve into. For a different, but no less enlightening perspective, then I recommend checking out Jay Tomio?s review HERE. Also, it looks like we both will be have interviews with David Anthony Durham coming out in the near future, so I would keep your eyes open for those for even more info on ?Acacia? and the author. Anyways, I think some other people are reviewing the book, so I?m interested to see what you think if you?ve started it yet. As always, thanks for your time and much love & respect.

I read about that book and I was interested in it. I couldn't find any excerpts, though. I like to taste it first, before i buy

It would be great to have some additional info as well. Do you know if the author has/plans a website dedicated to that series? With said excerpt on it and maybe some background and/or map?

You can read an excerpt HERE. Not sure about a website. I know that he's redoing his current author website, so that might have maps, etc., but I'll ask.

I finished creating David's website a week ago or so. There are excerpts from the new book posted there, as well as a map, reviews, and other items of note. He also has a Forum there, so stop by and say hi. David is really active with his website and how he interacts with the fans.

Although, actually, June could be wrong because Amazon says the 12th and I think that's a tuesday. But I'm not sure.

Looks interesting, nice review. And I'll be avoiding the blurb so cheers. Though it wouldn't be the first book to reveal something like the first third of the plot on the cover, if it's something along those lines.

That said, Acacia should be read by all. Anyone who likes their fantasy historically epic (like Martin or Erikson) should read it.

I just finished Acacia - ultimately, I enjoyed it a lot, but I felt the first third was pretty flawed with dull writing and too many similarities to GRRM. However, if the latter two-thirds of the novel are any indication of what's to come, this is going to be a very good trilogy. (full review)

Sean, another terrific looking Web site!

I'm about 70 pages into my ARC and so far, I like what I've read. If the remainder of the novel maintains the quality of what I've read so far, I will be happy.
