MOD EDIT: K I read the review...didn't personally feel there were any spoilers in there just a description of the different arcs in the story. Some members apparently do feel there were spoilers so read at your own risk. If you do not like getting any information about the novel do not read it. you've been warned. -Folken

Hi guys!

First of all, let me begin by offering many thanks to both Simon and Sam at Transworld for allowing me to get an early read of Reaper's Gale. I'm really grateful for this opportunity!:p

As I said before, for my money this book is one of the best in the series, second only to Memories of Ice and Deadhouse Gates. At times it feels as though it contains more surprises than the rest of the volumes combined. Heed my advice: Expect the unexpected!:D

The book review is rather long, especially since I included a plot summary, something I seldom do. All spoiler-free, of course! So if you want to get an idea of the various arcs that comprise Reaper's Gale, check it out.

Definitely one of the best fantasy books of 2007, if not the very best! Check out the book review here.

Cheers,

Patrick

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!.... May is so far away....

Great review Pat, look's like Reaper's Gale is going to be well worth the wait.

You do realise however that your life is worth nothing now.... :D Fear Abyss, fear him!

Oh I think I've got till the names of the winners are drawn before my life truly becomes in danger. If Abyss doesn't win a copy of REAPER'S GALE, then perhaps I'll go to ground for a while!:D

For the love of god - can someone, anyone just confirm if Rake shows up in this book or not (apart from the prologue ofcourse)

Everyone who has read this book has refused to even give a hint - they just dodge and skip around the question. This makes me more and more suspiscous about something - I cant take it anymore - a yes or no answer.

I was hoping pat will have mentioned something but no - damn

Nice review by the way pat.

Now that was a glowing review if I've ever read one. I can't wait to read this book!

My instinct says Pat mentioned him.

I've been wrong before though. :D

Good review, Pat. Looks like this book will be a good one.

Hmmm, I did say no spoilers...:D

I will say this, though. I did answer that question on another board, somewhere...

Thanks Pat, unlike some others here this review makes the wait more bearable for me. I know what to expect now (yeah yeah, the suprises, I'm expecting them!), at least I lost the uncertainty of that.

Nice review by the way!

I'm so glad these books are long, and I am thrilled that this one is the longest yet.

How long do you spend doing the actual write-up, pat? The review, not the reading of the book.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Nice review, I hope it's all right to discuss the plot threads you mention. I'm not asking for spoiler answers, just thinking aloud.

The Chancellor of Lether remains unnamed - is it still Triban Gnol? Or the Warlock King, who your review later reveals is still active.

Nice to get verification that Karsa killed Binadas on the Silanda in HoC. It was pretty much a sure thing anyway, but I always had a niggling doubt at it for some reason.

I assume the "Kercha" who made Redmask's weapons are the KCCM.

I'm definitely intrigued by the tidbit about "strangers at sea" in Shurq's summary. A group that would attack Edur and torture the captain? The torture makes T'lan Imass unlikely. Tiste Liosan maybe, but they don't seem to have much anger towards the Edur in the first place? Who else?. Barghast or Meckros would not be up to the job based on past experience. I wonder.

Nice to know that the Errant was not the Master of the Tiles/Hold as of MT. I always thought so.

And now we know for sure that the Reaper of the title is definitely Hood. For the shocking death of the title, I'm thinking...Fiddler, Quick Ben or Ganoes Paran. They're the remaining characters of Whiskeyjack level stature to my mind. I don't think Rake is the one to die here (I really hope not).

I'm a bit surprised there are still Kris'nan on the go. Weren't they supposed to be the first born sons of the leaders of the Edur tribes, of which there were 5 or 6? Given the numbers who bit the dust in MT, there can only be 1 or 2 left, or Hannan Mosag has done more recruiting in the interim.

Can I have a quick page reference to that bit? HoC is the most "fuzzy" book in my head :

But even so;

as the Adjunct leads her fleet toward Letheras, Rhulad Sengar must face Champion after Champion, until he can finally step into the arena to meet his brother's murderer.

One can only wonder what happened to Icarium... O_0
