Okay, when Rake battles Tayschrenn's Galayn Lord demon at the end, he says this:

Quote

Rake began to launch attacks, savage swings of his black weapon. At first the demon held its ground, delivering fierce ripostes, then staggered back a step, then another. Relentless, Rake pressed his attack. 'To the Mother's regret,' he grated between blows, 'was Light granted birth. To her dismay… she saw too late… its corruption. Galayn… you are the unintended victim… to punishment… long overdue.'

Now, what has that got to do with anything? As in, wtf is he going on about, and why?

Presumably the Galayn Lord has some association with Light (despite having a name that's almost exactly the same as Galain) and so he doesn't get along with the Prince of Darkness very well.

The Galayn Lord did have a golden/yellow appearance as a dragon, right?

"Dun brown" is how it's described. Which I think is a nice way of saying beige...

I assumed that Galayn suggested an association with an early corruption of Galain, so starting on the path towards light.

Well it's GotM so it could mean something or nothing.

Has anyone stopped to think that all Rake ment was he had some pent up anger that needed release. So he took out his frustration with his people, the pointless mortal war, his fear of the Tyrant, etc. on the poor creature.

I tend to agree with Aptorian that Rake was speaking metaphorically.

The demon ends up in Dragnipur doing wagon duty, so technically he is receiving punishment that properly belongs to someone else, ie: whomever (RAFO) was responsible for the situation necessitating Dragnipur in the first place.
