Calm meets Karsa

Just doing another reread of HoCs and something caught my attention more than other items.
Calm upon being freed whispers into Karsa's ear... "they will not leave you these enemies of mine. It seems shattering their bones was not enough." ...." I believe i must wait. Wait and see what comes of you, before i decide if i shall deliver unto you, warrior, my eternal peace". ...."I warn you, the desire to deliver it (peace) is very strong at the moment."
"the one named Karsa has been chosen. If i was to tell you even the little that i sense of his ultimate purpose, you would seek to kill him. But i tell you there would be no value in that, for the ones using him will simply select another. no. Watch this friend of yours. Guard him. There will come a time when he stands poised to change the world. And when that time comes, i shall be there. For i bring peace. When that moment arrives, cease guarding him".
Now, did other people pick up the significance of this? I hear people talking Karsa this and Karsa that, but at some point his future will be curtailed. What is the 'big thing' he will do (fight rhulad, or iccy or lead and army of TTT to kill all children) , and 2nd will Calm be able to stop him (i think yes) Anyway just thought that was a powerful paragraph... probably the best part of the long karsa opening save maybe finding the carved stone that tells of the fallen status of the Teblor. SE doesnt usually just through crap like that out there without any greater purpose. (though for all i know Karsa's story may not end in these 10 books) Anyone have any thoughts on any of this?

Quite frankly I hope that Karsa would die from a broken leg
, but anyway, we dont really know what his purpose is, yet it has something to do with the CG, because the 7 gods of toblakai did choose him, and them being unbound Imass serving the CG means they were following his orders...so...yes you see the picture

I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

I think we caught it. You're right, it's clearly a major bit of foreshadowing. Karsa has big things ahead of him, and I think the next time he meets Calm he will be better prepared to deal with the situation.

It will be interesting to see whether Bairoth Delum fails against Calm, should Karsa and her meet again within the series.

I think Karsa could hold his own against Calm now, depending on the negation of the magic of course- the Kendryllah demons, who, I would argue, Karsa could beat, seem to have given the other FA a good hiding, and this time Karsa won't be surprised or caught off guard.

Karsa Orlong made dangly trophies of the Deragoth, and thus far looks like the one to take on all comers and win, but I have a sneaking suspicion (nay fervent prayer) that Dassem Ultor will make a surprise appearance at some point, just to embarass everyone. He won't necessarily kill anyone. He'll just make them hang up their swords and go back to their old jobs of building clocks or bodyguarding desert superstars.
I do worry slightly for Calm. Interesting character and all, to be sure. Forkrul Assail are, on the face of it, very hard customers indeed, but even so, I fear she won't be prepared for just how devious and canny Karsa Orlong has become... nor the fact that his flint sword can now, apparently, fight on its own, and at least one of the souls within it will bear her quite a hefty grudge.

Does being unbreakable, six feet long and holding the souls of two Teblor warriors count?

Apart from being not only unbreakable, but even more unbreakabler then Imass swords? And housing two Teblor souls?

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Well, un breakable seems a stretch... it is extremely hard, but is it the toughest thing on Wu? (i am sure there are lots of enchanted blades of that type) Ex would it shatter Rhulads sword? Dragnipur? etc Anyway unbreakable doesnt make you a much better swordsman
Do we have evidence of the 2 teblor doing anything in there or just that is where they live to talk to karsa?
I was more referring to someone saying the sword greatly improves his fighting. I didnt think his abilities were tied to the sword.

"Apart from being not only unbreakable, but even more unbreakabler then Imass swords?"
LOL How can something be more unbreakable than something else. Isnt it either breakable or unbreakable?

Well, T'lan Imass magic makes their swords unbreakable, but Karsa's sword went through them like some little twigs.

Since their intern/ment in the sword havent Bairoth and Delum lost the ability to speak to Karsa?
And the souls in the sword must confer some sort of special bonus or enhanced ability, otherwise, what's the point? Other than preventing Hood taking their souls, of course.

Delum & Gild lost the ability to talk to Karsa, yes, but I'm pretty sure there were still situations when the sword "communicated" in some way, seemed eager for battle or the like. And I think being unbreakable is a result of holding the two souls in the first place.
edit: oh, and Imass swords are not really unbreakable, there are examples of broken Imass weaponry in the books - not just those broken by Karsa.

Karsa sword isnt special in comparison to say Dragnipur and Rhulads Shattered Sword.
The two souls travelled into the flint and that was what made Karsa able to create such a large shard into to the form of the sword. In turn for aiding Karsa the souls where sparred the enevetable embrace of Hood and given the promise to deliver death upon a thousand victims through the wielding of Karsas hands. Thats the extent of the swords story... it doesnt have powers its just huge and speciallycrafted.

As mentioned, it broke lesser invented swords, so it does have some power, even if it's just being less breakable than them.
Another thing is that I recall at least one person recognising him, or something, by the sword. Heboric says something when he sees it, and I'm not sure he's the only one. I get the feeling that there's some sort of prophecy or premonition or something floating about it.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Thanks Aptorian, that seems to fit with what i remember. It sounds more believable coming from you.
I am 300 pages into HoC right now so this time around i will keep an eye out for when Karsa goes to make the sword. (and about people making comments regarding karsa and the sword.

Karsa's sword is indeed "unbreakable." 'Siballe offers this to him in the cave, and he agrees, so they do whatever abracadabra necessary to make it unbreakable.
Now, given that their flint swords were also supposed to be "unbreakable," one wonders just how reliable this will be.
Also, would his sword really be unbreakable in the face of, say, Icarium's rage, or is it just "mostly unbreakable?" That is my suspicion.

I'm pretty sure that the Imass swords are unbreakable against anything but Elder warrens, and Karsa's has his friend's souls in for extra unbreakableness. So I think he could defend himself from Icarium with it.
