New kids comic Kirkman is doing. Saw this piece at Newsarama.

Having just read most of INVINCIBLE and pretty much loved every page of it, i would read almost anything he does.

The funny thing is, outside of Walking Dead, and Invincible, almost everything Kirkman has done is either average, or shit. With the exception of Irredeemable Ant-Man & Marvel Zombies, which were was good.
Mostly shit.
Haunt, Capes, Brit, Imaged United, Tech Jacket, all shit. Destroyer, Guarding the Globes, Wolf-Man, all arguable on how good they actually were.

You lot might want to take a look at Nonplayer, the first issue of which appeared today (in the UK, that is; our colonial friends across the pond got it yesterday) Rumour has it that it's the next big thing. I can tell you that it's absolutely gorgeous to look at; in a Geof Darrow, Moebius kind of way...

I'm assuming Abyss renamed the thread, not quite the subtitle I'd have chosen let's say, but I suppose it works... somewhat... ;)

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Admittedly i haven't read all that much of what you're ref'ing... the one ish of Wolf-man in the INVINCIBLE collection was weak and Marvel Zombies was never supposed to be 'good'. But WALKING and INVINCIBLE are BRILLIANT so i'd forgive him a lot..

I would have made one of the sound effects 'KER-NERD', myself.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Correction: it appeared in the UK yesterday and in the US the day before that. There was only one copy left in the 2 comic shops in Manchester today. I'm told issue #1 is getting a second printing though. Apparently copies are already showing up on Ebay for $20+; I hate comic speculators... ;)

RE - Nonplayer

The second issue isn't even slated for release, or close to done. The first issue took him a year to complete. The artwork is beautiful, but chances are this book will be plagued by delays killing any value and excitement for it.

I imagine it will be a great mini-series, but it will probably take 2 years, minimum to put out, or the product quality will go way down with the next few issues. A lot of hypes been generated, and the book was good, but not as good as the hype would have you believe. It's not the next Walking Dead. Also, the difficulty of finding a cover price copy is frustrating, as paying $20 for a 4 day old comics fucking sucks.

But as with all this new Image first issues, you need to be in the store the day they came out to get a copy, for the most part, just on a larger scale.

But with all that being said, I bought 5 copies Wednesday afternoon. Heh.

I fucking hate all the apeculation on Image first issues period. Chances of there being another Chew or Walking Dead are slim, especially for a mini. So you have guys buying up all the fucking issues for eBay, and none of the regular customer can get it.

Ever notice how all the speculation comes after the print run has closed, too, and not when the Previews comes out? It's a little fishy.

Realizing what I just wrote, and saying I bought 5 issues of Nonplayer makes me sound hypocritical, but I should bought out I bought all the Nonplayers for friend who stores didn't think to order any.

Just an FYI. If anyone who's into Superman hasn't read Mark Waid's 2004 trade SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT, it is probably hands down the best version of his origin story ever. It later ceased to be canon when Geoff Johns wrote Secret Origins, but I just think for a bookended story of how he chose to take up the mantle of hero, it's amazing...and I hear tell that it's the story that Zack Snyder has been looking at for his new Super movie MAN OF STEEL.

Worth a look for Superman fans at any rate!

When did Issue 3 become the one that sells out and is rare? Like when I was a kid Issue #1 of any title was always the rarest, then sometime in my teens the rarest became issue #2 and it stayed that way until my late 20's...now all of the sudden it's become Issue #3 that's rare and hard as shit to get if you miss it on the first day.

Just fucking once I'd like Comic companies to realize a title is popular and do reprints that will handle the flux of folk wanting them. I get sick of this whole searching to find it...and then when I find it have it be priced at like $20+....its bloody ridiculous.

Anyone read cacophony by Kevin Smith?
Borrowed it from a friend, and though it'll probably take me all of an hour to read, I still can't drag myself away from my TtH re-read.
I've read BH, RtCG, RG too since I borrowed it, these re-reads are just too good to stop!!

Should I go for it and read it? Apart from the walking dead and some star wars, I've not really read any comics.

What say you's??!?!?!!!?

I feel out of my Kevin Smith phase after MALLRATS. His writing can be really childish and convoluted. I remember initially liking CLERKS 2, but after a rewatch I realize it's total poo.

That said, Smith brings an interesting sensibility to comics he writes (his GREEN ARROW run was decent, meanwhile his Spiderman/Black Cat one is terribly trite))...but the problem (especially with something like Cacophony) is that he makes Batman too verbose (he loves to have people talk) and the typical Smith humor is in there and it always pulls you out and makes you go "yeah, smith likes da low brow humor" which I find jarring.

Cacophony is totally about the villains though, and the story is interesting enough.....it's just that Smith's execution is not nearly as good as folks like Grant Morrison who absolutely nail Batman books.

I heard it was the most loquacious Batman to date.
Hmmmm.
It doesn't feel like Kevin smith when there's no star wars references!!!
Cheers.... Quick.

Final orders for 2 and 3 are in before 1 comes out, so unless the book has huge hype and customer pre-order behind it, the order for 2 and 3 will always be less. If the book is a success, issues 4 and 5 will start to pick up.

IE - Walking Dead

We3 is arguyably the greatest original piece of work he ever produced. To this day it still causes me to be wracked with emotion every time I sit down and read it. That's a feat with a book that is only 3 issues long. Love it.
