Millar is VERY hit and miss these days...and a part of me really thinks he's starting to lose his mind like Frank Miller has done recently...

I appear to be the only person in the world who likes The Dark Knight Strikes Again. I mean it's crazy stupid and also just crazy, but it's pretty funny and rather entertaining.

Same but even more goes for ASB&R. The yellow room was hilarious.

Isn't that the one where Frank Miller Batman maims some thugs in front of whores Black Canary and this turns her on so much they immediately fuck whoreswhoreswhores on the literally bloody ground there and then?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Now halfway thru Tom King's comicbook-deconstruction semi meta sf ONCE CROWDED SKY... I havent decided if i like or love this book but either way I'm enjoying it. I think the clincher will be how satisfying the ending is.

Okay it's love... Every single one of you who has ever, EVER, been a comic book fan desperately must needs get their hands on this book right the dragonfucknuts now. You need a very basic grounding in comics 101 to truly appreciate this book and.... Yknow how i was right about the dresdencrack and the coCaine and the PCBreach....? Well it's like that.

Just got and read the first volume of the new 52 Wonder Woman. It's double wicked and y'all should read it if you're not. Great to see a writer finally embrace the mythic - and dark- side of WW and turn out a comic closer to Hellblazer than Superman Vs Batman.

Sounds interesting.

Currently back in Dark Horse Star Wars comics with VECTOR #1 - story is kinda meh so far and the KOTOR art sucks. I just had a feeling I needed to avoid this crossover and so far I appear to have been justified.

Meanwhile, I have declared my slog through the Marvel NOW-niverse as officially no longer worth the effort.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Yeah, she's finally being given her due in the New 52...the story is compelling and the art is wonderful!

What I really like is that there's finally a bona-fide attempt to give WW some sort of concrete background and placement in the universe. Batman and Superman have their cities and huge supporting casts of both friends and rogues, as do most other major superheroes obviously- that's never really been the case for WW, and what she's had has often been half-baked at best.

I sincerely hope that this mythos sticks with the next writer. It's so difficult now for writers to build new things in modern superhero comics, coz the next person on the run washes it away and goes back to a previous status quo to tell the story he always dreamt of.

Boo, Paul Cornell's SAUCER COUNTRY was cancelled. He's getting to end an arc, but it's not going to be how they wanted to end the story.

Another GOOD Vertigo title bites the dust.

DC really has no clue how to gauge the popularity of their titles.

Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't those decisions almost always made based on sales?

Ie: if enough people are buying it than it's popular than it lives.
Sure there's the odd renaming, new #1 or writing/art team that merits a reboot, but otherwise what it amounts to is not enough people are buying SAUCER to justify the cost of producing it.

If you mean floppies vs collections tho', then i agree with you, but that's a flaw inherent in the system that no one seems willing to move beyond.

Yeah, defo floppies VS Trades...the problem being that Vertigo (DC) hasn't marketed it well at all. It's solidly written and drawn...it's not caught on because people don't really know enough about it to have picked up floppies. And yeah that's a flaw in the system, but if they wanted to they could have marketed it....I mean look at SAGA...would it have sold if Image hadn't marketed it so well? I dunno, maybe Brian K Vaughn's name might have sold floppies...but I just feel that DC is really into marketing the New 52...and not recent new titles in the Vertigo line.

But yeah, my complaint is more to do with floppies than anything.

At any rate, SAUCER COUNTRY is pretty damn good, you folks should read the existing arcs.

Just read:

Sub-Mariner- the Depths, a miniseries about Namor from a few years back that's really very good indeed; played almost like a horror film, Alien-style.

The first volume of Jeff Lemire's run on Animal Man. This is just brilliant. I do like that the bringing back of certain Vertigo titles and characters into the main DCU fold in the New 52 has led to a spread of Vertigo sensibilities even into titles that weren't actually such - this (which goes so far as to cross over with Swamp Thing, though I've not read that yet), Wonder Woman. It's great because, unlike the ridiculous conceits of the 80s and 90s Xtreme Komiks Kraze!, there's an understanding among many of the writers that 'grown up' comics don't just mean more blood and more tits - what with Azarello, Lemire and Snyder leading the charge, the future is in good hands I think.

I've also just discovered that John Constantine will be making that jump - there was already a New 52 version running around in team comics like Justice League Dark, with Hellblazer staying separate and continuing on the aging-in-real-time thing he had going on, but in March Hellblazer finally coming to an end and Jeff Lemire is starting an in-universe Constantine series. I'm unsure, but if anyone's good to give it a go, it's Lemire...
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

BATMAN INC. (Vol. 2 Issue 7) continues to be the most amazingly written (Grant Morrison) and drawn (Chris Burhnam) comic in the spat of Morrison-penned stuff out there. Don't get me wrong, his run on ACTION COMICS was...interesting...but he's literally hitting home run after home run from issue to issue with INC.

I also like how it survived the New52 upset (It had been at around Vol. 1 issue 7 or 8 when the New52 rolled around) with the LEVIATHAN STRIKES storyline, and the addition of only a few nods to the new universe...plus it's the ONLY place in the New52 where Stephanie Brown still exists in some form (and I adore Stephanie Brown, she's my fave Batgirl).

Burhnam's art is A-MAZING...and apes Frank Quitely's style SO much that you can only tell them apart by small personal flourishes. And Quitely is my fave artist.

I think by now it should be evident I will literally read ANYTHING Morrison pens...but I'm really happy to be on board for this creative team on this comic.

Just. So. Good.

"Injustice - Gods Among Us" is a DC mini-series setting up the upcoming fighting game of the same name. Apparently. I read the first three issues and liked it. I always enjoy what-if Elseworld DC type tales.

All of you who consume comics...OWE it to yourselves to read Brian K. Vaughn's SAGA (currently on Issue 9 from Image Comics)....the first trade is available (#1-6) and it is probably the most compelling, well-written and paced, and drawn adult comic of the current era. It's an absolute triumph and I'm upset with myself for having let it go so long without being read.

It's now made its way to my LCS Pull List as I will be reading the floppies because I can't wait to continue the tale waiting for new trades.

READ. THIS. BOOK.

Probably smart...as this series is flat-out ADDICTIVE with a capital A. So you'd be floppy-collecting for however long Vaughn plans to run it...didn't Y THE LAST MAN run into the 100's of issues?

Either way, I'm stuck into it now and wouldn't stop for the world.
