Perhaps there is no reason for them to engage in romance, but then there is equally no reason for them not to.

I feel a NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDS would be redundant here.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Ugh.

Every now and again I wonder if I devote too much time and money specifically to DC...and I'll pick up a Marvel comic...last month it was UNCANNY AVENGERS...which was meh....and yesterday it was ALL NEW X-MEN....which was also meh.

Sigh.

The writers you want to be reading are Matt Fraction and Jonathan Hickman. Hickman's just recently finished an apparently very acclaimed run on Fantastic Four (and I have to say, I've read the first two volumes of it and even though I don't really like the Fantastic Four they're FUCKING AWESOME in a Grant-Morrison-at-his-best way) and now he's been let loose on The Avengers which seems like a match made in heaven. Whereas Fraction's just taken over FF and is also writing Daredevil, I gather. The thing that made me a fan of his is his run on Iron Fist a few years back, which is stunning.

Read CAPTAIN AMERICA #2. It's oddly compelling, though just a very different kind of story and not how I envision Cap at all.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

In an AWESOME turn of events, DC heads overturned BATGIRL'S Editor (who the other week unceremoniously fired Gail Simone off the title)...and Gail is now back on the title!

This is SUCH a big win as Simone brought a verve to BATGIRL we'd not seen a while, and it's nice to know that online protest by her fans backlashed enough at DC to get her back on the book!

And what of the editor? If higher-ups reverse your decision, you don't really have a lot of clout left as a manager.

No one knows yet, but that's what they are wondering.

Picked up Absolute Sandman #1 for the re-coloring as an X-mas gift for my brother. He'll flip for this one. Hefty thing, innit.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Heavy. As. Hell.

LOL, I had to read it by alternating it from laying down with it propped on my chest to sitting up and laying in front of me.

It's absolutely lovingly presented though. The ABSOLUTE editions are the way to go.

They let Gail Simone go, and not so she could write another DC book. Any credibility and/or faith in them was shot at that point.

And then you need to have a special lectern stand thing built with a custom suspension harness so you can read them properly.

So I just found out that marvel is relaunching one of my favourite comics in the past couple years: Guardians of the Galaxy. With Bendis as the writer. With Iron Man on the team. He's going to write it as a cosmic Avengers. Fuck you Marvel, just fuck you.

I don't know if any of you read a lot of cosmic Marvel in the past couple years but I feel like this kind of just ruined it for me. Why would Starlord go from having a dream of protecting the galaxy to protecting earth from the galaxy. Why would Groot or Rocket Raccoon? Why would anyone on the team?

I understand, on a intellectual level that there relaunching this because of the movie but the fanboy in me is just screaming no at the top of his lungs. Seriously Iron Man? For fuck sakes. Haaa I'll just have to wait to see but Bendis doesn't have a very good track record unless it's low-key, down to earth stuff which GofG definitely isn't. Hopefully Daniel Abnett and Andy Lanning get back on the book. One can hope.

On a happier note Saga is one the best comics I have read in awhile and also scratches the itch for comic space-operas which there isn't a enough of IMO.

Who in their right mind would kick Dan Abnett off a series? The man is a plot wizard.

I am not sure he was kicked off, it was more like the series was cancelled along with Nova which lead into Thanos Imperative which he also wrote. But yeah he was really good at plotting and at the end of the day when he was writing the cosmic stuff it was the best comics marvel were putting out at the time.

I thought the cosmic stuff hit its apex during WAR OF KINGS (following on the Annihilation crossovers). Everything after that felt like they didn't know what to do with the setting any more and the THANOS IMPERATIVE, while it had a few cool moments, and specifically the finale, was pretty weak overall.

Yeah, they're spreading Iron Man all over everything and it's a clear marketing ploy, due to the popularity of the films. Never mind that the rebooted IRON MAN itself, so far, has been a fairly boring slog.

Ultimately, that's what galls about Marvel NOW! The feeling that it was a pure business move.

More new Marvel NOW! drops - I read 'em so you don't have to:

NEW AVENGERS #1 - ummmm, what is this supposed to be about, exactly?

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1 - it almost worked for me, until the end.

Spoiler

No. Just...no.

Meanwhile, UNCANNY AVENGERS #3 and DEADPOOL #4 are stuck somewhere in the Negative Zone or something.

I read Mark Millar's "Superior."

It was most decidedly inferior. Ha.

But seriously, it sucked.
