...Or they could gut the comics line, add Daffy Duck to the avengers movie, and turn Punisher into a g rated comic. (awesome, but unlikely)

Punisher used to be a g rated comic (shocking, i know). He had magic guns and foughts devils. It failed. Quickly.

And daffy Duck is a Looney Tunes property. You're thinking of Donald Duck. Who would totally get his downy ass handed to him by Howard the Duck in any event.

This is a weird conversation.

But it's DISNEY... they're evil incarnate!

On one hand they're playing the innocent providers of wholesome family entertainment and on the other they're driving a thousand Chinese sweatshops making all the merchandise bought by the western hemisphere out of toxic plastics and the tears of little children.

It's the pain and blood that makes those toys so sweet.

If Disney have any sense they'll know to leave well enough alone (except to possibly make sure that Jeph Loeb isn't let anywhere near another comic book in my lifetime...) I would wonder about the Marvel movies now. How is the hookup with Disney going to affect those?

...

here's the thing - I'm betting Disney bought Marvel for the MOVIES, not the comics. Comics are nice. They generate properties that can eventually be turned into movies that make big evil white globs of sloppy money. But comics as a medium haven't been, generally, profitable since the speculator nonsense in the early 90s. Sure the X-Men can still turn a profit, but the industry generally has been a mess for ages. So its full steam ahead for comics as a movie advertising medium...

Expect, ASAP, Tony Stark to stop being a fugitive and start wearing environmentally friendly Armani suits and using a green laptop to fight evil othercorps. Expect Steve Rogers back and whiter and blonder than ever... and replacing the star on that sheild with Mickey Mouse's silhouette, ears and all. Expect WORLD WAR HULKS to be renamed HULK FAMILY VALUES. Thor will team up with Jesus. The AVENGERS will be renamed the PROTECTORS (subject to copyright, i think Malibu still owns that name). Ms Marvel, She Hulk and Storm will start wearing pants instead of bikini bottoms. Black Panther with become African Panther. Wolverine will apologize to Silver Fox for his ancestors' bumping uglies with Pocahontas, even tho it was entirely consentual and there was a priest in the room at the time. Spidey will not only be married again, but will have his kid back, three of them in fact. AND Aunt May will live again. Again.

But it works both ways. Mickey Mouse will take up poker.

...of course, i could be wrong.

- Abyss, would in fact read Thor vs Jesus... "Behold my hammer!" "Behold i just turned this swimming pool of water into wine!" "Forsooth! You rock. Let us imbibe heavily!!!"...

While Quesada (that bastard) did turn Marvel around from failing miserably to actually getting into the black before the majorly successful movies hit, the new chain of films like the Iron Man sequels and the Avengers are going to be making 'cha-cha-CHING' signs roll up in the Disney exec's eyes. Hopefully they'll find a cure for that one day.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Howard the Duck shagged Red Sonja.
Donald wears no pants and has a speach impediment.
Ergo and hence, Howard wins.

Donald could shag Red Sonja through Howard, and not only would Howard enjoy it, it wouldn't even be gay.

Donald spent most of his life wearing a sailor suit. He's not a sailor, but he wears a sailor suit.

Howard rawks a suit and spent years hanging out with the Giant Size Man Thing. Just say "Giant Size Man Thing" out loud and you'll realize how awesome Howard was to have that as his sidekick. Howard had an enemy called 'Dr. Bong', who caused hallucinations.... can your paltry Donald top THAT?

Marvel has something like a 40% profit margin on its publishing operations, according to that investor briefing earlier this year. And actually, publishing accounts for a significant fraction of Marvel's income. Hence the absurd price increases this year.

It's less MOVIES than it is MOVIES, CARTOONS, VIDEOGAMES, MERCHANDISE MERCHANDISE MERCHANDISE OF ALL SHAPES AND SIZES! And I guess comics too. I mean, Disney. Y'all have been to a Disney store at least once, right?

Speaking of Ellis:

Supergod... In November. I'm quite stoked to see this one. It completes Ellis' loose thematic trilogy about superhumans with Black Summer and No Hero and looks like it will really blow the roof off. Garrie Gastonny's art has a pleasing Brian Hitch/Alan Davis vibe to it, which seems just perfect for the piece; I do like Jose Ryp's superdetailed Geof Darrow-esque style which has worked fairly well for the other two, but judging from the apocalyptic subject matter I think this will benefit from Gastonny's cleaner and more "widescreen" approach. I think he's going to be a name to watch for in future.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Bertrand Russell

So, is anyone reading DC Comics summer event BLACKEST NIGHT? So far it's way better than any other event they (or Marvel) has done. Liking it BIGTIME!

I've been meaning to read it because I heard good things. But I wanted to read up on the corpse and stuff, since I don't really know DC that much, and I just can't be bothered. DC characters just seem so stupid to me, they're flashy, overpowered, not really something you relate to.

I wuld rather read about the Marvel Nova Corp than the Green lanterns.

I've been reading it. I'm not up to date on most things DC so a lot of the stuff goes right over my head but it is cool. Kal-L vs Kal-El and Connor Kent was pretty cool. I'm a sucker for Superman.

I dunno, it seems like every time Marvel wants to make a space threat seem serious, they wipe out the Nova Corps. it's already happened what? Six times or so.

The GLs have only been wiped out once and that was by Hal jordan, the big idjit.

I keep half an eye on DC out of curiousity tho' i don't buy anything except the odd trade. That said, it's a wee bit intimidating that Blackest Night builds on pretty much every crossover event they've had since Identity Crisis.... universe wide as well as GL-centric. But it's getting good commentary on the internuts. maybe it's the magic superhero zombies, i dunno...

- Abyss, saddened that no one has eaten superman's brainz...

It has Black Lantern Aquaman summoning zombie sharks and tearing out people's hearts. He's almost respectable now. Even while riding a giant zombie seahorse. OK, maybe not.
