EAST OF WEST vol 7.
Holy. Crap.
Hickman is writing a masterclass sf/fantasy with this stuff.
Then, MONSTRESS vol. 2.
I'm being spoiled for great comics lately. Having done the basic setup in vol 1, this book dives deep into the characters' world and it's pretty nuts. For all the furries and cutsy cats, there are some crazy Cthulhu'esque elements, the cats are necromancers, and a one-armed teenage girl is the nastiest killer in a world where anthropomorphic tigers and sharks are pirates. Will be all over vol 3 when it comes out in Aug.
....ok, back to the DREADSTAR readthru... was a little worries when Starlin's ended his (epic, mad crazy 'splosionistic) run, then Peter David took over... this is not a bad thing.

Right now Comixology are having an 80% off Superman sale. I got some solid older classics with such a big sale.

If you have ever, ever, wanted to own the (digital) epic awesomeness that was the KINGDOM COME LS... comicxology is selling the anniversay ed., with all the bonus stuff, for $5.99.
To be clear, the non-anniversary ed. without the bonus stuff is $9.99.

Comixology has various ALIENS and AvP omnibuses... omnibusii... omni...collections and tpbs on sale for $2.99US. YMMV for some of the contents but overall i've really enjoyed those i've read, which tend to follow thru on the ALIEN and ALIENS films and ignore the rest that followed.
https://www.comixolo...id=23661&lang=1
If this is tempting to you, however, consider the ALIENS MEGABUNDLE over at Dark Horse
https://digital.dark...om/bundles/8507
...which has everything in the comixology omnithingies and more for $39.99.
If you bought everything in the DH bundle on comix'y, it would cost three times more.
If you want just the six ALIENS omnibuwhatses, no AvP, no other stuff, but still about 1200+ pages of comics, go w comi'xy.
If it matters, note you can dl .pdf and cbz backup copies from comixology, but not Dark Horse, tho you can dl within their app for offline reading. That matters to some people. I'm not particularly bothered.

Question: has anybody read/been reading the Mister Miracle series that started last year? I was just reading reviews of the first issue and it looks frigging awesome, both looking at the Scott Free character in a really interesting way and dealing with Darkseid in exactly the way Darkseid should be done. I gather the first trade is either just out or imminent, thinking of picking it up when I get the chance- anyone confirm it's good?
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Yes, I’m reading it. It’s as great as you hear it is.

Just finished the complete run of DREADSTAR. The graphic novels, the complete Epic/Marvel run, the First comics run, and vol 2.... all of it.
Y'know that feeling when a comic starts really strong and hits all the right notes and is just generally awesome and the story carries you along and you care about the characters and then the writing/art team changes and it's like watching a car crash involving a really really nice car that you really like and care about being driven by someone else and you could totally turn away and not watch the crash but you can't and thirty issues later wow that really sucked at the end? ...well, that.
The worse part is, the first half IS brilliant, and comes to a logical and complete end point around issue 35. The story is done. Starlin really should have moved on. Instead, he sets up a new, not as interesting, status quo, and then hands the mess off to Peter David, whose usual mix of irreverence and seriousness that goes so well with his X-FACTOR runs and elsewhere just utterly doesn't work here, and a rotating art team that i found just flat out was awful at times.
So if you happen to obtain or own METAMORPHOSIS ALPHA, the DREADSTAR GN and the first say 40 issues of the floppy comic, go for it... it's great stuff. A bit retro at times, the artists tend to go a bit cheesecake with some women characters, but not as bad as say 90s Image. Then, when the main storyline is done (and you'll know it is) stop.

Decided to go back and read the original Thanos appearances (for some reason I just can't quite fathom).
Those old Captain Marvel comics are just rough to read.

Finished The Invisibles by Morrison. I really liked it, although I almost feel like I can't comment on it until I do a reread. But, considering its length, that won't happen anytime soon. My biggest gripe was that the 4th book was very confusing and all over the place, and I had to kind of push myself to read it. The first 3 books were a bit like that, but I got the gist of what was going on.
I already started on my next Morrison project, JLA. I'm about 60 pages in and really enjoying it so far.

People like to state that The INVISIBLES is what THE MATRIX ripped off...and I'm curious how accurate that statement is, as I've never read it.
Morrison when held to task can be a thought-provoking and stellar storyteller...but when he's allowed to wander EVEN SLIGHTLY...he can confuse even the savviest of readers. I can't tell you how many times I've attempted to make sense of his New52 ACTION COMICS run...and it still is strange and full of nonsense.....meanwhile his EARTH 2 book, and his run on BATMAN & ROBIN are nothing short of incredible tour's de force (also his JLA run).
INVISIBLES is probably enough of a playground that he lets his own weird brain run away with the story, resulting in a confusing narrative overall.

I love so much of Morrison's work. His JLA run was legend. All-Star Superman is glorious. He redefined the X-Men when they really really needed it. We3 rekills me every time i reread it.
Otoh, Morrison had Superman kill Darkseid by singing at him in Final Crisis which was possibly the single stupidest fucking thing i have ever read in decades of reading comics including Image in the 90s.
In other news, the recent rumours of DC and Marvel's respective studios racing to ressurrect old Kirby properties and dig up the OLD GODS/ETERNALS led me to dig up Gaiman's ETERNALS vol. 3 run on Marvel Unlimited.
It's good fun, very much Gaiman doing his less grim side thing with an old old comic property, channeling a little Ellis, a little Morrison. Starting the sequel series, 'vol 4', so far not quite Gaiman but still fun.

I enjoy a lot of what happens in Final Crisis, but it really does embody everything that goes wrong when Grant Morrison is allowed to do what he likes. Waaay too many ideas stuffed incoherently into a package that can barely contain it, with scenes that should have been iconic moments to be rememberd for time reduced to half a panel at the bottom of a crowded page, plot threads half of which have no real relation to the actual Crisis, the crux of the beginning of story needing to have read Seven Soldiers of Victory to understand it (which iirc itself needed having read his Ultramarine Corps which goes all the way back to a spinoff of something that happened in DC One Million and his JLA run)... Apart from anything else, it should have been twice as long at least.
But yes, on song he's one of the all time greats. Let's not forget Animal Man. Or, say, DC One Million itself which I find a really underrated comic event. Solaris should be used more by other authors.

Kalibak, Darkseid's son, who has gone tete-a-tete against Superman and made him bleed out of his head, was killed by Talky Tawny the Talking Tiger, a funny animal sidekick from old old Shazam comics.
And then Superman sings Darkseid to death.
Meh. MEH I SAY.

It's also amusing to see interviews with Morrison...the ones that let him ramble just show how his creative process is just his own untethered stream of consciousness.
