To sum up today's discussion: just read Ellis. It doesn't really matter what because it's all somewhere between great and brilliant.

Thanks guys. Purchased Stormwatch, Authority and Global Frequency. I have had the urge to reread Planetary recently, but I have been holding off because I have too much that I haven't read on my TBR list. I will bump one of these towards the top to get my Ellis fix.

Just started the Azzarello / Risso series 100 BULLETS... i have the whole thing in ecomic... three issues in and damn, this is good graphic form storytelling.

AUTUMNLANDS vol 2.... i was on the fence about Busiek's new series after vol. 1, which was good, not great. Fun concept, far future post Apocalypse, animals have evolved into humanoids, most species living in magic-operated flying cities ruling over barbaric herbivore tribes living on the world below. A few mages try to summon up an ancient warrior, get a human special forces soldier, hilarity and swordfights ensue. It was quite good, the art ranged from spectacular to ok, and i felt i got my money's worth but wasn't blown away the way most SAGA and BLACK SCIENCE volumes hit me. AUTUMNLANDS vol 2 however... is brilliant fantasy / sf, with glorious art and a fun well paced story. This is the kind of storytelling i expected from the guy who wrote my favorite runs of AVENGERS and THUNDERBOLTS. The main characters get to move away from the not terribly original 'save the city' plot from vol 1, and go travelling, and Busiek just goes nuts.

Also read/flipped thru some stuff i picked up in the Dynamite Comics Humble Bundle a while ago.... got it mainly for the Dresden Files WAR CRY series, which was far far better than Goblin / Ghoul or Low Town, but the RED SONJA : QUEEN OF PLAGUES was quite good. Well written Hyperborean action, doesn't overdo the cheese, Sonja written as an interesting character as opposed to a sword with a chainmail bikini transport system.

The PAINKILLER JANE omnibus, i did not like. Thought it read like a script proposal written in the late 80s with Pamela Anderson in mind for the lead role. In a bad way.

I've been liking Tooth & Claw AUTMNLANDS, beautifully illustrated, and just finished NIGHT's DOMINION, which unfortunately felt rather rushed towards the end. Has anyone else picked up Ellis's latest series THE WILD STORM? It's a reboot of some of the work he did in the STORM WATCH series, though may favorite of his work remains PLANETARY.

100 BULLETS is pretty great and that team has since reunited for the prohibition era werewolf series MOONSHINE.

As for Marvel - the recent ULTIMATE & ULTIMATE² series are pretty well done as is Dr. STRANGE and the THOR stuff . . . but I think i mentioned those before.

Finally got around to reading IDW's Action Man #1-4, that I picked up in a Humble Bundle last fall. Everyone on the Transformers boards (on account of IDW's "Revolution" Hasbro properties crossover) kept going on about how much fun this series was, and holy cow were they right.

I'd say that bundle is with the $18 just for the Joe Hill Locke & Key material. The only other thing that I recognize on there is 30 Days of Night. Do you guys have any experience with any of the other material yet?

I bought the $5 tier. So far I've read The Comic Book History of Comics (informative!) and D4VE (hilarious!) and both were well worth the money. Lots of other intriguing-looking stuff there, too.

I'm also tempted to through in another $5, since that $10 tier is pretty big.

Then I read Lock & Key, Volume 1 and holy crap that was fantastic. So I paid the extra $8 to get to the $18 tier and nab volumes 2-6. So yeah, what JPK said: $18 is an absolute steal for all that Locke & Key goodness, plus some other cool-looking stuff. (Also looking forward to reading D4VE2 now.)
