How far exactly is a league Iknow its a stupid question especially now that I am more than half way through BH. But all along I have nevr known just guessed about a mile

According to Google,

1 league = 5.55600 kilometers

which is roughly 3 miles. That's assuming SE is using our league and not some Malazan one.

On the subject of units, I've always assumed a "bell" is just "one hour". Is that correct, or it some other unit of time?

Good point, likewise I'd always just assumed the bell/hour link....it does seem to make sense though, from various descriptions of the sky (dusk, etc) and matching comments like "Crokus heard the 6th bell toll" or whatever, it seems more likely than not. Although as Wu is a different world, hours may be different lengths or there may be a different number of them- I guess we'll need SE to explain the orbit period of Wu as well.

I think a bell is an hour and a half. I remember reading this somewhere, but I could certainly be wrong.
