Love his whole catalog. But this is one of my go to tunes when I need some courage before going into an important meeting with project managers at my work.

Lost a huge talent today. RIP Tom Petty.

[EDIT]: Reports now say he is hanging on. Hopefully he pulls through. Sending prayers his way.

Confirmed now. Tom Petty has passed.

Another one of my favorites.

So I just listened to the two other singles Taylor Swift has released from her upcoming album. I had hoped that Look What You Made Me Do was an exception.

Nope. All the songs seem to be like that. I just can't seem to enjoy them at all. This makes me sad because I really loved her last two albums Red and 1989. I was very comfortable listening to those songs. I still do. New Romantics, How You Get The Girl and Clean are still some of my favourite songs.

This album seems so mean-spirited and I just can't feel the music.

Gorgeous isn't too bad. It's generic but kinda sweet, esp. compared to the other couple.

Dave Grohl dressed up like David Letterman w/ Foo Fighters backing Alice Cooper may very well have been the best thing that happened during Halloween this year.

Except maybe Kristen Bell dressed as Thomas Magnum singing Do You Wanna Build a Snowman/Enter Sandman mashup with Dave?

I just heard that song 'Honey I'm Good' by Andy Grammer from a couple years ago and remembered how much I hate it. It's catchy but I hate the lyrics. Its about some guy at a bar getting hit on by a hot chick with long legs and a nice ass, but he tells her to get lost because his baby already has all of his love. Everyone thinks this is such a cute romantic song and wish they had a man so in love with them.

It's one lyric in particular that bothers me,

"So nah nah, honey I'm good
I could have another but I probably should not
I've got somebody at home, and if I stay I might not leave alone".

So basically this guy knows if he drinks any more he might cheat on his girlfriend with this hot chick from the bar so he turns down another drink and goes home to his love. It's almost like this guy wrote a song to congratulate himself for not cheating but had he been even a little more drunk he probably would have. His lyrics also make sure to point out how hot the chick at the bar is so you know that he is not only a real stud but also practically a hero for turning her down.

Underestimated, under-appreciated, overshadowed by his brother. But there's no band without the driving backbone of his rhythm guitar. R.I.P. Malcolm Young

About the only band from that 'era' still relevant is U2, and i think that has more to do with sheer size and inertia than actual relevance.
(that said if any member of U2 gets called out for this i will die a little inside.)

U2 is not really relevant anymore either....they get by on largely Nostalgia. I doubt fans could even name more than a few songs off their last few records, and less "hits".

This was proven with the fact that the last tour revisited Joshua Tree...since that's one of their great albums.

Heh... i did not even know the last tour revisited The Joshua Tree and i more or less know (knew) that album (and Achtung Baby) by heart.

.

I think they cottoned on to the fact that those that come to see them, come to see them to heard songs from the first album to around Zooropa or Pop and NOTHING after.

I believe Bono was called out for hiding a lot of money in tax havens, which is pretty terrible given the emphasis he puts on charity.

Iirc, he wasn't hiding it, he was just being a rich person being smart with their money. It's not like he doesn't do a shit-tonne of charity work.

Anyhoo, we're offtopic... i'll punt this to the music thread... ETA and here we are

Going to be seeing 1000mods in March. So glad to see that they are touring in the States.

I've seen 1000 mods before. Their consensus was that I'm "great at message boards", have "no need to change anything", and it would be "virtually impossible to improve upon" my posts.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Ola Kvernberg, a famous Norwegian composer and jazz violinist made an album recently that can almost be described as prog rock. It's called Steamdome, and I really like it.
